Police sent a Code Red Alert for missing Eric Duffey

21 year old Eric Duffey, a student at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, has been missing since 1:15 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012.  Eric was last seen wearing an orange flannel shirt, blue jeans, a brown jacket and possibly a gray and white stocking hat. He’s about 6 feet tall, about 150 pounds, with red hair and green eyes. Eric Duffey was celebrating his 21st birthday and was last seen about 1:15 a.m. Saturday leaving Joe’s Bar in downtown Stevens Point, WI. It is presumed that he was heading home to his residence. Police stated on Sunday they did not suspect foul play, however, they believed alcohol was a factor in Duffey’s disappearance.

Eric Duffey, who’s originally from Fitchburg and attends the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, was last seen about 1:15 a.m. Saturday leaving Joe’s Bar in downtown Stevens Point. The 21-year-old was believed to be heading back to his residence.

Police told reporters Sunday they did not suspect foul play, and that they believed alcohol was a factor in Duffey’s disappearance, the Stevens Point Journal reported. The official search was suspended Sunday evening, but police, family and friends continued to search neighborhoods near the campus, the newspaper said.

His parents said he was celebrating his 21st birthday.

On Sunday afternoon, the Police Department led a search with tracking dogs and about 150 volunteers throughout the community looking for Duffey. They also pinged his cell phone which only indicated that it was in the Stevens Point area.

UPDATE I: Body of Missing student Eric Duffy Found in River.

A body recovered by emergency personnel searching a river was identified today as a missing Wisconsin college student who had been out celebrating his 21st birthday over the weekend, authorities said.

Stevens Point Sgt. Dan Wheeler said officials removed the body of 21-year-old Eric Duffey around 1:10 p.m. from the Wisconsin River, which goes through the city about 110 miles north of Madison. The coroner’s office made a positive identification after meeting with Duffey’s family.
