FoleyGate … This cant get any more Strange, Fishy or Partisan … Or can It?
The latest from Foleygate from The Drudge Report is that “Filthy Foley online chats were Page prank gone awry”. You have got to be kidding. This has not yet been proved; however, why would this not shock me.
According to two people close to former congressional page Jordan Edmund, the now famous lurid AOL Instant Message exchanges that led to the resignation of Mark Foley were part of an online prank that by mistake got into the hands of enemy political operatives, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal.
According to one Oklahoma source who knows the former page very well, Edmund, a conservative Republican, goaded an unwitting Foley to type embarrassing comments that were then shared with a small group of young Hill politicos. The prank went awry when the saved IM sessions got into the hands of political operatives favorable to Democrats.
The prank scenario only applies to the Edmund IM sessions and does not necessarily apply to any other exchanges between the former congressman and others.
And now its being reported by ABC News that three more Pages are coming forward to accuse Mark Foley of online sexual advances. Wow, you are not going to believe these comments.
The pages served in the classes of 1998, 2000 and 2002. They independently approached ABC News after the Foley resignation through the Brian Ross & the Investigative Team’s tip line on ABCNews.com. None wanted their names used because of the sensitive nature of the communications.
Other Bloggers to read for these bizarre events:
The Raw Story, “Sources inside ABC News tell RAW STORY that the evidence of widespread misconduct by Foley is overwhelming and rules out the possibility that the entire scandal is based on a prank or a sting.”
Stop the ACLU, “Furthermore, even if it was a prank it changes nothing. If it was a prank, Foley fell for it. Foley’s actions are inexcusable no matter which way you cut it. He abused his power, and this young man wasn’t the only one.”
WIZBANG, “In a Conservatives With Attitude podcast panel discussion Tuesday night, Betsy predicted as much. I don’t have a transcript of her comments, but she talked about the possibility that the IM exchanges might have been the result of a small group of teenagers sitting in front of the computer laughing about the things they could get a congressman to say”.

of course it can get worse. as long as you’re capable of saying “it can’t get worse”, it can get worse.

Foley, 52, stepped down Friday after he was confronted with sexually explicit electronic messages he had sent teenage male pages and promptly checked into an alcohol rehabilitation clinic. Through his lawyer, he has said he is gay but denied any sexual contact with minors.
the spin begins . . .
Much of this story is actually making no sense. Do I believe Foley did what he was accused of … yes … and he has been shown the door.
Hmm … a personal sexual affair and problem that this politician has is somehow now a systemic issue accused of Republicans. Where have a heard before that this is a private matter about sex?
I will only comment briefly as this is most likely a post, not a comment.
1. For what reason would Hastert cover this scandal up? That makes no sense. As a republican in DC you know damn well this would leak out against you … hell, the CIA leaks confidential info if its damaging to Republicans.
2. The Speaker of the House is a decent man. Always has been.
3. How would one completely know what Foley was doing if those told may not have escalated the issue. Also, Pages coming forward now as anonymous is BS. There is a possibility that the AIM thing was a prank gone bad. With the internet and the political hate that exists I would give that zero credibility.
4. How does a blog with no history of anything even get the Foley emails?
5. How many people in the Democratic party knew about this and did nothing? Are not they just as complicit then of endangering pages as they claims they are making of the Republican leadership?
6. This story stinks to the high heavens.
Putting Politics above the safety of individuals … that is our concern. By the political hay that Dems are trying to make with this October surprise I am getting an ick feeling about what they are and have done.
Get off your soap box Dems (Pelosi et al) you are far from hero’s in this … i would wager to bet you knew all along.
Foley go bye-bye.
With the Dems pressing Hastert for a resignation for Hastert, because he possibly new about this. My question is if the Dems knew about this long before Hastert, who should resign?
If the Dems knew and used this as a political manuever, they are just as moral deficient as Foley. I hope Hastert moves on to find out when these claims were leveled and when they knew and who knew first. And let the chips fall where they may.
Doesn’t matter what party he is from. This dude is SICK and he is one of the leaders of our COUNTRY !!!!
Why does everyone want to make this about partisan politics. It’s about someone in a position of authority and power acting innappropriately with young teenage boys! Whoever knew and did nothing should be held acocuntable.
If Foley had not been having innappropriate conversations with pages, why didn’t he deny involvement? He instead stepped down and went into treatment. Other named and not anonymous pages have come forward since this cracked and at least one has gone so far to be interviewed on tv.
Granted, it is nice political timing. Though not unexpected considering the current political climate. Perhaps this is nothing more than a ploy to divert attention from the war and the thousands of Americans who have lost their lives and those that will be lost fighting for oil, uh I mean terror.
As to the question did I send sexual Emails to young boys?
I can’t say yes or no! I was abused as a child and thats why I did it!! Same old, same old crap!!!!! Always blaming someone else!!!
Here is the sad part. Now there are people wanting to shut the page boys program down. The simple question is what did the page boys do to deserve this. Nothing! This isn’t the first time this has been an issue. But to protect both sides of the isle from having another Foley-Gate, they want to end the program! Dah, These people think they have so much power and now they want to protect themselves from themselves! Sounds an awful lot like the people in power on a small Caribbean Island to me. I won’t go into the issues of who knew what, when, where and why. But the thought of shutting this program down to protect both sides of Congress from themselves, stinks to high heaven.
The Page programs in Congress and in State Legislatures are good programs. To shut them down just because of one man or for whatever reason this was done is wrong.
I was a page; I served both in the Indiana Senate and the Assembly; the programs made me a better American citizen.
It’s like saying we should disban Congress just because there is one bad Congressman or woman? If that were the case, we wouldn’t have had a Congress for years now.
Let’s get real!
