Finally Republicans & Democrats have a Bi-Parisan Approach on Something, Mark Foley Enters Alcohol Rehab

INSIDE THE BELTWAY’S BI-PARTISAN APPROACH TO SCANDAL

Vanderbiltbipartsn

(Vanderbilt – ‘06)

Not that often that bi-partisan agreement is attained these days. However, when something works as well as seeking refuge in an alcohol rehabilitation program, party affiliation is not an issue it seems. Let’s hope the Kennedys and Foleys of this world get all the help they really need.

As the political blame game and politics of gotcha continue, it would appear that those “Inside the Beltway” in Washington, DC have finally found an issue that they can be bi-partisan.  SCANDAL.

It would appear that whether you are a Republican like Mark Foley with an email issue to pages or a Democrat like Patrick Kennedy with a driving problem … REHAB is the answer. We have learned that Foley was sexually abused as a youth; however, that is no excuse. When all else fails and one needs 30 days to get out of Dodge, Bi-Partisan rehab is the answer. Maybe Foley got some pointers from Patches.

The sad reality of this scandal is it has nothing to do with the safety or welfare of any teenage pages on Washington. It was nothing to do with them being protected. If it were this story would have been broke by the media a long time ago. It has to do with politics and a Democratic Party wanting control of the House & Senate at any cost.

I want to know what Republican leader knew what, where and when. I want to know why such things are allowed to happen. However, I also want to know what Democratic leaders knew of this and when as well. This scandal stinks in every way possible including how and when it was reported. Not for the concern of a victim … but for strictly political reason. No wonder everyone hates politicians and the Congress has approval ratings in the 20’s. Which is remarkable as the MSM has focussed on President George W. Bush’s approval rating, all the wile its double that on Congress. Many believe that Foley was being protected by Republican leaders.

All kidding aside, obviously these two individuals need help. Whether or not rehab is the answer is debatable. However, lost in all this is the fact that there was a wrong perpetrated on a page. Was it handled perfectly by the Republican leadership is the House, probably not. However, the Democratic party certainly does not have the moral authority to preach to anyone regarding these matters. Should such contact that took place between a page and a US Representative have ever happened? NO! However, to merely politicized this event is sickening. Mark Foley is gone, resigned in disgrace. So what was learned? What changes are being made? Provisions need to be put in place to prevent such events. However, the “gotcha” politics that is going on and the MEDIA witch hunt for a scalp is disgusting. Especially when we find out that this “SCANDAL” was inaccurately reported. Think that was purposeful?

Mysterious blog scooped media on Foley messages, Oh really? Is that how it happened or how it was supposed to look like it happened?

ABC ONLINE GLITCH LEADS TO IDENTITY OF FOLEY ACCUSER, FAMOUS IM EXCHANGE WAS WITH 18 YEAR OLD

On Tuesday ABC news released a high-impact instant message exchange between Foley and, as ABC explained, a young man “under the age of 18.”

ABC headlined the story: “New Foley Instant Messages; Had Internet Sex While Awaiting House Vote”

But upon reviewing the records, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned, the young man was in fact over the age of 18 at the time of the exchange.

A network source explains, messages with the young man and disgraced former Congressman Foley took place before and after the 18th birthday.

So it turns out that the explicit, sexual IM’s occurred when the page was not a minor. So that would make the person in the same category as Monica Lewinsky. How many people in the Democratic Party resigned over MONICAGATE? Anyone? Answer? ZERO.

This entire sordid affair is shameful right down to the reporting by the “gotcha” media.

How is it that no one is talking about protecting the children who are the Pages? Instead its all about politics and a Democratic opportunity to take back the House and the Senate. Sick, simply sick. And politicians wonder why they have a lower “human” rating than used cars salesmen and pond scum.  Please tell me who the hero is in all of this. There are plenty of villains, too many. Who is it that actually cares about the larger issue other than re-election?

Need a new party – call it “common sense”.

I agree Mrs. Red. It also wouldn’t hurt to limit the amount of retirement these folks draw. It would make you sick if you saw what they pay in and what they draw out.

Isn’t there a saying that politics makes strange bed fellas? Kennedy and Foley?

      FWIW check out drudge

It kills me that these representatives are too worried about their own hide and throwing others under the bus, rather than putting the welfare of these kids as the top priority. I think most people feel the same way that I do about this. Kids should never be exposed to anything like this and there are no excuses for it. Let’s quit pointing fingers and take care of business and protect our kids.

I have a feeling that the people will speak in November concerning the leadership, or lack of, in both parties of congress.

When Clinton does it.. it’s his private life. I say when they both do it’s pathetic..enough is enough.

Well, it’s nice THIS page was ‘legal’… regardless, it’s still freaking creepy. He needs to go play with pervs his own AGE.

      KW,

I agree, its creepy and its wrong what Foley did and he should be gone. The interns and pages are not these politicians personal play toys … thats just sick.

However, the outrage was never there when it was a Dem caught in the act.

The other issue is … would this story have attracted the ground swell if it were the actions of consenting adults vs a pedophile as initially reported?

They knew the emails were rather benign and the AIMs were the issue.

ABC knew how old this kid was when the AIM’s were done. They just let the facts get in the way of a good story.

The entire matter is just sickening from every angle.

RED, I think you have a good point… and my thought is no, I don’t believe this particular story would have attracted so much political frenzy (had the page’s age been correctly reported). It’s unfortunate to know the majority of our ‘knowledge’ comes from one side.

It’s repulsive that the Dem’s were able to cover-up those acts. My disgust rests with these perverts, regardless of their political stance. I’ve said before, I would love to see those who knew be charged with criminal omission, along with the perps posing pretty year after year for their registered offender ID.

The three peccadillos of conversation: Politics, Religion, and Her… then some yahoo has to go throw a monkey in my wrench by opening his closetful of creepy skeletons.

Makes me want to puke. But I’ll settle for a martini. With extra olives. Please.

Whatever the political ramifications of what happened may be, the real tragedy, in my view, is that we continue to forget … there is no substitute for character. If that is missing, not all the PR gimmicks and media appearances in the world can be an adequate substitute.

What can we do to simplify the political world so that the flotsam and jetsam is abandoned and the focus returns to character?

I’ve had a theory for some time that the more money is poured into something, the worse it gets. Take a look at the spending on politics these days.

My pet wish: all political advertising on TV would be banned. It’s impossible, of course (how could you define advertising as opposed to news?), but it would be a good start.
