One Year Later and Americans Have Not Embraced Obamacare as More & More Waivers are Given

Hasn’t Obama learned that you can’t lipstick a pig?

President Barack Obama, then House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the Democrats told us when they forced Obamacare down the throats of Americans that they would learn to like it and we all would not know what was in it, until they passed it. One year later and the American public has not “learned to love it”, in fact they want Obamacare repealed. A recent CNN poll shows that the opposition to Obamacare is the same, one year later.

According to a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Wednesday, on the one year anniversary of the signing of the law, a majority continue to oppose the measure, but some of the opposition is from Americans who think the law is not liberal enough.

Thirty-seven percent of Americans support the measure, with 59 percent opposed. That’s basically unchanged from last March, when 39 percent supported the law and 59 percent opposed the measure.

Those providing analysis to the poll want to emphasize that opposition to Obamacare comes from both sides stating that it was over-reaching and not liberal enough. However, if that were complete true two things would not be occurring. One, the Democrats would not have been routed in the 2010 midterm elections as politicians vote on Obamacare was a major part of that election. Also, there would not be an overwhelming majority of those who wanted to repeal the health care law.

Barack Obama and Democrats had hoped that this intrusibe and over-reaching healthcare law would grow on the American people over time. This important issue was crucially important to Obama’s reelection in 2012. It has not and as stated by Hot Air, Obamacare is just as popular as it ever was and that is not much. Obama has turned one and now enters the terrible two’s.

Then there is the question of waivers that have been given. So many, that  Crossroads GPS plans to file a federal lawsuit Wednesday in D.C. District Court against the Department of Health and Human Services.

At issue is the Obama administration’s criteria for granting 1,040 of the temporary health care reform waivers to businesses, labor groups and a handful of states. Those organizations are being allowed to opt out of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act — at least until 2014 — in order to let them develop systems and alternatives to meet the health care reform law’s strict coverage requirements.

I see two inaccuracies in this article. It states that waivers have been granted “at least until 2014″, which is impossible. It also states that waivers exist “in order to let them develop systems and alternatives to meet the health care reform law’s strict coverage requirements.”

According to HHS, “Waivers only last for one year and are only available if the plan certifies that a waiver is necessary to prevent either a large increase in premiums or a significant decrease in access to coverage.” Although one could quibble on the “coverage” aspects, there is no mention of systems changes as a reason for a waiver. It’s not clear why a new waiver explanation needed to be created in this article, when one already existed.

This article misses the big question of what is “bad” about a waiver. It seems to want to influence or persuade the reader that simply because it is called a “waiver”, that makes it bad (perhaps sinister?). The entire reason why a waiver can be requested and granted is in the prior paragraph, as described by HHS.

Can someone explain why that description is “bad?”

In researching this matter further, I found that CNN offered a more balanced analysis of the poll results: “There are two ways to look at the poll’s overall numbers. One is that 59 percent oppose the law. The second is that if you add the 13 percent who oppose the law because it’s not liberal enough to the 37 percent that support the law, you come up with 50 percent of the American people who disagree with the Republican leadership on the issue.”

BTW, although not mentioned by CNN’s article, I saw elsewhere that 45% responded that they had no support for the health care law.

Isn’t this a very different perspective than is presented above?

why didn’t obama go after the hospitals that charge your insurance as much as three times the cost that you would pay in cash ?
he wants to force insurance companies out and force the government plan on you.

Steve, I think it’s funny that you believe HHS version after they have been proven as liars.

Also, the reason for the waivers as given by HHS “necessary to prevent either a large increase in premiums or a significant decrease in access to coverage.” Yeah,um.. we were told that there wouldn’t be any cost increases or loss of coverage by your idol so the whole thing is a scam and liberals have no credibility.

      4,

Sorry, I forgot to link the HHS page that discusses waivers. It explains that waivers are limited to mini-med plans (limited-benefit health insurance). Under ACA, these will end by 2014 as exchanges are available. It seems to be explained well on that page and others.

As far as “proven lying” by HHS, I’ve not heard of this. Is there sharable evidence to support this claim?

      sm(5),

If this is related to providing proof of anything, I don’t get it. :-(

Bids? What is that all about?
      ____________
      SM: In a word, lobbyists.

You folks on the LEFT were the first ones to scream foul when Haliburton was provided contracts. I guess it is just a coincidence that Labor Unions lead the list of waivers, eh?

Just curious, if Obamacare was so good for America and Americans, why would there be the need for any waivers?

OBAMA supporters would eat dog crap if he told them is was delicious. they have no mind of their own and have to be led by the hand like small children. they think nothing of the futures of their own children as they use any means to force the democrat propaganda on their fellow citizens.
to be a Democrat should be made illegal in this country.
