Congressman Spencer Bachus: Aruban Investigator Headed to US on Holloway Case. Really?

Ever wondered what has been one of the biggest problems with the Natalee Holloway case and investigation? Dave Holloway touched on it the second to last time he went back to Aruba and met with the investigators and prosecutors. The problem some four months after the case began? Communication.

Dave Holloway went specifically back to Aruba to make sure that everyone involved in the case from the ALE to the police commissioner to the prosecutors office to the government to the FBI all were on the same page. A pretty sad state of affairs after four months of an investigation. Now over five months later and the communication does not seem to be any better. This lack of communication caused the family to want the investigators and prosecutors changed and and also the reason behind their support in a boycott of Aruba. Well it appears the communication difficulties do not end there.

According to the AP, Rep. Spencer Bachus has requested the meeting with Aruban officials to help resolve questions about how the investigation has been handled by authorities on the Caribbean island. It is also being reported that Aruba have agreed to send its chief investigator to the United States to answer questions about the case of missing teenager Natalee Holloway.

Rep. Spencer Bachus said he requested the meeting to help resolve questions about how the investigation has been handled by authorities on the Caribbean island, a Dutch protectorate.

“News reports surrounding Natalee Holloway’s disappearance have left the impression that the Aruban authorities are not doing all they can to solve this case,” Bachus, R-Ala., said in a statement.

Alabama Representative Spencer Bachus also went on to say, “It would be helpful to have an official verification, from the Aruban authorities themselves, of what has been done in the investigation to get a more accurate reading of how the Aruban government has cooperated.”

We remember Congressman Bachus from early on in this investigation when he made some pretty disturbing comments as to why there should be FBI involvement. I had always hoped that this would have been elaborated on.

U.S. Rep. Spencer Bachus, R-Vestavia Hills, said Saturday there were circumstances surrounding Holloway’s disappearance that warranted the FBI being heavily involved. He declined to give details.

“The circumstances were disturbing,” said Bachus, who formally requested the FBI’s involvement. “I can’t get into it, but it’s something the family is aware of. There was an immediate recognition that this was not simply a teen who wandered off.”

In any event the communication problems seem to still exist in the Natalee Holloway case as Deputy Police chief Dompig remarks on Representative Bachus’ comments on a meeting taking place between US and Aruban officials as “he was unaware of plans to send an investigator to the United States”.

Aruba Police Chief Gerald Dompig, who oversees the Holloway investigation, said he was unaware of plans to send an investigator to the United States.

“Although I know several groups are suggesting such a visit, I personally have not received the request from my government. Such a decision has to be made by the Aruba government,” Dompig told The Associated Press.

Aruban government officials did not immediately return calls seeking comment.

This seems to be a recurring process in the investigation of the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. A microcosm of what is the root problem. One does begin to speculate whether this is a true reoccurring problem or a convenient excuse. It is hard to imagine that an island so small as Aruba can have these types of communication issues. In the United States many times things are unfortunately lost or miscommunicated due to large government bureaucracies; however, on Aruba where everyone is claimed to know what everyone else is doing. How is this possible?

On one side we have a person who says, Aruba have agreed to send its chief investigator to the United States. On the other we have a person saying he has no knowledge of this, who happens to be the chief investigator. Is it any wonder how the family and especially Dave Holloway lost their patience when they are searching for their missing daughter? Seriously people, I wonder just how much patience any one of us may have had put in this same position. I am beginning to wonder if any of us have a right to question the actions of a family put through this ordeal when all they want is their daughter back. Closure of one type or another.
