Donald Trump Will Travel to Mexico City Today to Meet with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto
It’s On … GOP nominee Donald Trump to make historic campaign trip to Mexico Wednesday and meet with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto.
The WAPO is reporting that Donald Trump will travel to Mexico City today and meet with with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, just prior to Trump’s much anticipated immigration policy speech in Arizona later today. Late Tuesday night on his Twitter feed, Mr. Trump said he had “accepted the invitation of President Enrique Pena Nieto, of Mexico, and look very much forward to meeting him tomorrow.” President Nieto had invited both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump to Mexico; however, only one has shown the leadership and where-with-all to take him up on his offer. Like him or hate him, he certainly has CO-JONES! Despite previous death threats due to Donald’s tough talk regarding Mexico, illegal immigration, building a border wall and making Mexico pay for it, Trump is going anyways. This should be interesting, oh to be a fly on the wall.
According to reports, Trump will be accompanied on the Mexico trip by former New York Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani and Sen. Jeff Sessions, Alabama Republican.
Donald Trump will travel to Mexico City on Wednesday for a meeting with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, just hours before he delivers a high-stakes speech in Arizona to clarify his views on immigration policy.
Peña Nieto last Friday invited both Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton to visit Mexico, his office said in a statement provided to The Washington Post on Tuesday night.
Trump, sensing an opportunity, decided over the weekend to accept the invitation and push for a visit this week, according to the people in the United States and Mexico familiar with the discussions.
Late Tuesday, Trump and the Mexican president confirmed on Twitter that they will meet Wednesday.
UPDATE I: Mexico rages against Trump visit.
One can only shake their heads at the reaction of those in Mexico that are coming unglued by Donald Trump’s visit. Amigo’s, it is your president that invited Trump. I wonder what they are afraid of?
Reaction was fast and furious among those in the Mexican political cognoscenti.
Former Mexican President Vicente Fox apologized on behalf of the country during an interview on CNN, accusing both Trump and Peña Nieto for using the occasion to exploit their own political opportunities.
“It’s a very opportunistic move, and I hope U.S. public opinion, U.S. citizens can see this and finally, and finally see what is behind Trump, this false prophet that is just cheating everybody,” Fox said during the Skype chat on “New Day” on Wednesday, adding that it is “a desperate move and I don’t see how it can work at all.”
The only way that inviting Trump makes sense for Mexico would be if Peña Nieto gets the Republican nominee to apologize for his past statements about Mexicans, Fox said, admitting that he did not understand the thinking of the current Mexican president while pronouncing Trump’s decision to visit “very smart.”
Fox had also reacted fiercely to the news Tuesday night, telling Trump that “[t]here is no turning back” from his offensive remarks about Mexicans, Muslims and others that he said “have led you to the pit where you are today.”
Added Fox, who previously apologized to the candidate after declaring that Mexico was not going to pay for “that f—-ing wall”: “¡Adiós, Trump!”
