The teen was found safe at approximately noon Wednesday by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department and will soon be reunited with her family.

UPDATE IV: Mt. Pleasant Police file charge in case of missing 16-year-old Marley Spindler.

Mount Pleasant Police have confirmed that a “filing false police report” charge has been filed in connection with the case of Marley McKenna Spindler, the 16-year-old who went missing last Thursday, and was found in Mount Pleasant on Wednesday.

At about noon on Wednesday, Mt. Pleasant police pulled over a silver Ford SUV near the Ravenel Bridge, according to a heavily-redacted police report. The vehicle description and plates matched the vehicle that 16-year-old Spindler allegedly drove off in when she went missing from the Myrtle Beach area on Thursday, August 20.

Police then took the subject to the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, and detectives from the Horry County Police Department arrived to conduct an interview. During the interview, she told detectives that she had been kidnapped and sexually assaulted during the time she had been reported as missing.

Detectives searched the subject’s SUV for evidence of the assault, and a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner conducted an exam in the hopes of collecting forensic evidence of the alleged assault suspect’s identity.

While taking the subject back to the police department from the hospital, a Mt. Pleasant officer continued to discuss what happened to the subject, and realized that there was an inconsistency in her story: she originally said she was alone with the sexual assault suspect, but at one point said the suspect drove “us” down Highway 17. The subject then said she would be honest about everything.

Horry County Police again interviewed the subject. Once they got out of the interview room, they advised Mt. Pleasant Police that the subject had fabricated the entire story.

It was determined that the subject is going to be charged with filing a false police report, the report states.

This does not bode well for the young woman. She apparently used her phone to ask for help, but no one she called realized the danger.

      She should have called 911.

Sixteen year olds should not be driving themselves to school alone. Predators are always looking for an opportunity of this type where the woman is alone.

I hope the police are questioning all her friends and checking the social media sites.

I’m hoping this young girl will be found OK. But I’m not totally sure she did not take off on her own.
She skipped school on the first day, her first time driving to school, to pick up her intoxicated 22 yr old friend on Ocean Blvd and take him back to Georgetown, her phone was found at a hotel on Ocean Blvd.
She was making bad decisions, hope that didn’t get her in over her head.
