South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley Picks US Rep. Tim Scott to Replace Jim DeMint in US Senate
South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has picked US Rep. Tim Scott to replace the outgoing Jim DeMint in the US Senate. With this pick, this means that Tim Scott will be the only Black-American in the US Senate and the first black senator from the South since Reconstruction following the Civil War. Retiring Sen. DeMint called Scott “a great choice for South Carolina and the nation.”
Rep. Tim Scott will be the first African American senator from the South since Reconstruction, following South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley’s announcement this afternoon.
Haley named Scott, a Tea Party Republican congressman from the state, to replace Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., in a press conference just after noon on Monday. Scott will also be the only black in the Senate.
Tea Party leader DeMint is stepping down to head conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation.
“He earned this seat for what I know he’s going to do in making South Carolina and making our country proud,” Gov. Haley said of Scott’s appointment.
UPDATE I: Sadly, the misguided racists on the LEFT are already calling Tim Scott names … Cries of “Token Black” and “House Negro” Begin. Just Sick, but what would one expect from the intolerant Left? The Left has become a joke, you’re a racist when you don’t support blacks and you’re a racist when you do support blacks. It is not a black and white issue, its just one of liberal, moonbat ideology.

I agree. The left will not accept anything that conservatives do in politics. They will attack just to be attacking.
This man appears to be very articulate. If he is a TEA party candidate, then maybe Rand Paul will have another to work with in the Senate.
[...] for the seat he held almost a decade ago. As reported at the Politico, Sanford plans to run for Tim Scott’s Congressional seat who was recently picked by Gov. Nikki Haley to replace the retiring Senator Jim DeMint. Seriously? [...]
