This is a strange case. The information in the article leaves a lot of questions.
The credit card usage in Baytown, Texas and then Williams, Az. the next day requires almost 1,500 miles of driving in 24 hours. Williams is on I-40 West of Flagstaff.
Highway I-17 from Phoenix to Flagstaff is not an easy, safe drive. It is IMO a very dangerous drive for someone with just a few years experience.
The grades are steep and the highway hangs on the side of mountains in many places. It would be easy for someone needing sleep to make a fatal mistake.
