Barack Obama Says, “More jobs in jobless benefits than Keystone XL Pipeline” … HUH?

Welcome to Obama in Wonderland … we are truly in an alternate universe when unemployment benefits creates more jobs than a work project intended to create jobs.

English might have been George W. Bush’s second language; however, it has become obvious the economics is not even in Obama’s top 10 disciplines.  While trying to play the martyr, Barack Obama said that he will delay his vacation and keep Congress in session until the passage of his desired payroll tax cut and unemployment benefits extension. Then Obama said the unbelievable … that the payroll tax cut and unemployment benefits extension would create more jobs than the Keystone pipeline. WHAT?

As Obama called for passage of those bills, he also responded to a recent Republican push to require him to approve the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline from Canada. “However many jobs might be generated by a Keystone pipeline,” he said, “they’re going to be a lot fewer than the jobs that are created by extending the payroll tax cut and extending unemployment insurance.”

Just curious, did this guy actually graduate college? If so, he certainly never took an economics course. Just curious, how does extending unemployment benefits create jobs? How do payroll tax cuts create them either? Is Obama just plain ignorant or does he actually believe the BS he is peddling? Ok, glad to see that I am not the only one who is scratching their head on this idiotic comment by Obama. As the Lonely Conservative opines,  how is it that unemployment benefits create more jobs than a project actually intended to create jobs?

Is he insane? Unemployment benefits will create more jobs than a project that actually creates tens of thousands of jobs? Heck, the project would help offset the payroll tax cut he’s pushing for, seeing that 20,000 or more people would start paying income taxes, not to mention the other revenue the project would generate for the government. I guess he’d prefer to see those jobs go to China.

It sure would be nice to have a president with an inkling about how jobs and wealth are created.

This guy has got to go before he does so much damage that it cannot be undone. Never has a President needed to be voted out of office as Obama, since the misery index years of Jimmy Carter.

Keystone XL!? Why stop there- don’t forget the interior department cancelling the mineral lease auctions for the Marcellus shale in Southern Ohio. Or the ongoing permitorium in the Gulf. Or the Feds threatening to shut down drilling in the Permian basin due to some random little lizard

      Obama’s extending of
      Unemployment creates anti-jobs. Barry likes
We the People being dependent on ‘him’ so
he can direct their lives. It’s reminiscent of a
Cattleman running the lives of his herd to suit
the ends of the Cattleman (not the herd). Once
the People are dependent on the ‘King’, they
      are owned by the ‘King’.

Rightknight, you are correct. Make a nation dependent on government and you own them body and soul. Why independent thinkers and small business (not to mention large of course) are so hated by the liberal left. They don’t need government. Sad and scary.

The product of other men’s labor!!

Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) – 16th President of the United States of America.

We all declare for liberty; but in using the same word we do not all mean the same thing. With some the word liberty may mean for each man to do as he pleases with himself, and the product of his labor; while with others, the same word many mean for some men to do as they please with other men, and THE PRODUCT OF OTHER MEN’S LABOR. Here are two, not only different, but incompatible things, called by the same name – liberty. And it follows that each of the things is, by the respective parties, called by two different and incompatible names – liberty and tyranny.

How in the world is spending government benefits stimulating economic growth?

Government benefits are derived from taxation … the fruits of someone’s labor … the fruits that the earner would have personally distributed through economic spending.

The pipeline project would provide REAL benefits … REAL benefits called wages which would be the catalyst to stimulate economic growth. More spending. More job creation.

    16. Dolf on December 12th, 2011 3:26 pm

@15. I agree the pipeline is much better.

But there more jobs in the benefits.

that pipeline is a local thing, the other nation wide.
However benefits only work if a country can afford them and it has some serious human character flaws (fraud, apathie) attahced to it, cause some ppl will go for the easy way instead of chipping in.

Dolf…you have to be the stupidest SOB on the planet.

Extending benefits DOES NOT let people spend more money to create jobs. What kind of backward a$$ logic is that? SOCIALIST LOGIC is what it is….

The 53% of Americans that pay taxes pay for benefit extensions.

You have no idea WTF you are talking about?

You know what these people who allegedly need these benefits do with that money? NOTHING…buy more liquour or drugs or in my wife’s experience in dealing with places like HEAD START; they buy top of the line clothing, Gucci bags, hair all done up; nails done and then they walk out to the parking lot and jump in their pimped out ESCALADE!

Give me a freakin break you socialistic parasite!

Unemployment has gone up with these benefits.

My in-laws run a small business and they have seen their taxes (for such benefits) go up almost 100%! Yep 100%

Stop watching the news to get your info…try living over here and go around to these small businesses and you see your remarks are LAME and STUPID!

The pipeline would not be a local thing you toolbox moron….do you know how many jobs it would create if that pipeline went North to South. It would have a ripple effect of jobs spreading throughtout the nation!

I want to reach through the computer if I could and choke your a$$ out everytime I see one of you dumba$$$ posts.

      Get a clue!

House Passes Payroll Tax Cut Extension With Keystone Pipeline Provision
      Published December 13, 2011

WASHINGTON – Defiant Republicans pushed legislation through the House Tuesday night that would keep alive Social Security payroll tax cuts for some 160 million Americans at President Barack Obama’s request — but also would require construction of a Canada-to-Texas oil pipeline that has sparked a White House veto threat.

Passage, on a largely party-line vote of 234-193, sent the measure toward its certain demise in the Democratic-controlled Senate, triggering the final partisan showdown of a remarkably quarrelsome year of divided government.

      Published December 13, 2011

A high-ranking Iranian official has said Iran’s military will practice sealing off the Strait of Hormuz, the world’s most important oil transport channel, in a provocative move that illustrates Iran’s capability of disrupting the world’s oil supply.

The announcement Monday by Parviz Sarvari sent oil prices up about $3 to $100 a barrel based on the speculation of a disruption during the military drills, Bloomberg reported.
