Michelle Obama was warned by aides against going to Spain and having a lavish vacation in the lap of luxury while back home common folk faced a nearly 10% unemployment rate and millions were unemployed. Her answer to the warnings, who cares, don’t you know who I am. Michelle Obama showed a complete disregard for the plight that the “common folk” were going through and now wonders why her carefully manufactured image is now tarnished and beyond repair. Michelle Obama finds her popularity poll numbers on the same path of President Obama, going south fast.
The New York Times reports First Lady Michelle Obama’s aides cautioned against her going on the early August European vacation in which she stayed at a 5-star resort in Spain and mingled with royalty. The lavish trip, the aides reportedly argued, could result in harm to her image. “Aides say privately that they warned her there would be a cost to the trip, but she overruled them, insisting it was a rare chance to spend time with Sasha and with a friend whose father had died,” the paper reports. “But the intensity of the uproar — including accusations that she was a ‘modern-day Marie Antoinette’ — caught the White House and Mrs. Obama off guard.”
The trip resulted in the first extended negative press of the First Lady’s time in the White House. Critics questioned why Mrs. Obama chose to go to a glitzy, high-priced resort at a time when unemployment is high and many Americans are suffering economically.
How out of touch exactly is Michelle and Barack Obama? In one breathe Barack Obama talks about that this was the worst economic time since the Great Depression and in the next moment we see his wife Michelle “Marie Antoinette” Obama running off to Spain. Record number of Americans are on food stamps and Marie Antoinette Obama goes on an extravagant vacation. While Americans do not have jobs and have had their houses foreclosed on, let alone cannot take a vacation, Michelle & Barack think that the image of Michelle Obama on the beaches of Spain is a perfectly ok image.
If Obama did not care what the American people thought when it came to the $787 billion stimulus package, Obamacare or illegal immigration, does any one thing that Michelle Obama cares what the American people think about her vacation?
As stated at Town Hall, Michelle Obama’s image has taken a major hit following the “life-styles of the rich and famous” vacation to Spain. In a time in which Americans struggle to pay their bills, keep their homes or even have a job, Michelle Obama went on her ill advised vacation to Spain. A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll of her popularity following the vacation had her at 50%, down 14% from 2009.
After a widely admired start in the White House, first lady Michelle Obama’s popularity is falling and, if the current downward trend in her approval ratings continues, could touch lows not seen since the scandal-tainted days of Hillary Rodham Clinton.
In a recent Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll, 50 percent of those surveyed say they have a positive opinion of Mrs. Obama. That’s down from 64 percent in April 2009 and 55 percent in January of this year. The first lady’s positive rating is barely ahead of her husband’s personal-approval figure, which stands at 46 percent in the new poll.

No joke, what did she say during the campaign for Obama’s presidency,”For the first time I am proud to be an American”. I wonder how proud she will be when we throw them out in 2012 after kicking Democrap Butts in November 2010.
Hmnnnnnnnn…. not sure about this one as far as Michelle herself goes. I observe a Mom who tries to be practical with what she teaches her 2 children first and foremost. While Michelle Obama is not my favorite First Lady by a long shot, the MSM portraying her as a Modern Day Marie Antoinette may be a bit much. I don’t know….I like her clothing and style overall at least. lol Dislike some of the images and spin the MSM puts on her. Bear in mind, we only have what we read and view in Mass media with which to form an opinion. I am a advocate on many of the positive campaigns and causes she supports and fosters. The time she wore the $600.00 Designer Sneakers to the Homeless Shelter to dole out meals was not a good choice for her though, I will say that! Who owns $600.00 sneakers? Millionare Politicians and their wives, indeed both DEM & REP.
The Socialistic LET THEM EAT CAKE hypocrisy is VERY ACCURATE thanks to her Husband, anyway. Our President’s actions or inactions spell it all out for America clearly!
To be fair, there have been plenty of Republican First Ladies they have had the Marie Antoinette LET THEM EAT CAKE thing going on as well so this is on both sides of the aisle, IMO.

#2 – Not sure why on earth you like a woman who sat in the pew with her husband for 20 years learning to hate America. I don’t like most of her fashions, but I certainly don’t think someone should be judged simply on fashion. What I really don’t like is her obvious arrogance (not sure whether Barack taught her or she taught Barack about arrogance to the 10th degree. I don’t like her pretense at going good with a vegetable garden and on and on.

I distrust Michelle Obama. When I read about how she is for the people who have little, I gag! Everyone should know about her program while a VP at University of Chicago Hospital that forced poor blacks to pay 2 1/2 to 3 times more then whites with Health Insurance. They were also forced out of the Hospital and had to go greater distances and get lesser care, which was difficult for them. I should not be talking in the past because this policy is still in effect. This was to make the “not for profit” Hospital more profitable. This was while working under Valerie Jarrett and the program was initiated by MO and designed by David Axelrod. MO received the big $195,000.00 raise and Barack Obama returned the favor by earmark of One Million to UCH, which made a profit, instead of a Hospital that needed the funds. This is how they looked out for the people in Chicago!
The community Organizer and the Socialite wife, along with their personal Chef are now in the White House! Looks like the same old, same old to me, we are all getting what we do not want.

She could have taken this lavish vacation somewhere in the US where it would have helped the local economy. Perhaps the gulf? It would have gone a long way to mitigating the perception. So this was a vacation to get some one on one time with her daughter and a friend who was recently bereaved? So who were all the other people? If I wanted a one on one with my daughter, I wouldn’t invite 40 other people. Oh, well, I am a plebe and think like a plebe.

SM: You are 100% correct. Instead the high & mighty Obama’s went to FLA for a 24 hr photo-op vacation, was pictured swimming in the water that was not even the Gulf. Then they got down to business and left the peasants in Florida and went for a 10 day vacation on the Vineyard.

I think both Michelle and Obama are alike when it comes to out of sight, out of control spending. Michelle spent $500,000.00 on designer clothing while in Spain. She was angry with Obama for inviting Oprah to his birthday bash, which Michelle did not attend. She doesn’t get along with Jill Biden either. That trip is probably being paid for by taxpayers since she meet with the King and Queen for lunch. Write it off the Obama budget and consider it a PR move, let the people eat cake, meanwhile why don’t the Obama’s eat gulf shrimp.
And why was it necessary for Michelle to fly to Martha’s Vineyard’s on a separate plane with her kids and more security when Obama followed up flying on Air Force One with his dog, Bo, and the guy that walks Bo. I think they purposely like to shove in our face.
Now Obama wants to start a new economy plan spending money on roads, railways and runways. That is what some of the money for the stimulus plan was suppose to be spent on in the first place. What do we look like, fools? He’s only going to do that because of election time!!!!!! A~~hole!!!
#5-Katablog~ It would be rather silly to rate or appreciate any female or First Lady by her taste in fashion only. It was a rather tongue in cheek comment.
Over time, my view of her has softened somewhat. In the beginning, and even during O-BOMB-A’s campaign, truthfully she did not impress me at all. The comment about–America is going to regret it if they don’t vote for him…you will only have one chance” (loosely quoted) IIRC, she got alot of much deserved flack for that. I distinctly got the initial impression that she as Anti-American. Is she still perhaps? Good Question….but like most the dutiful First Ladies …they do not comment much post-election on anything earth shattering. The protocol is for them to visit charity functions, aid local, domestic and international causes for the good—you know—the Good Samaritan PR Spin they attach to most President’s wives while they are serving.
Here’s the thing~all the over spending, etc. Not feeling that. Essentially-if our Country is struggling- don’t put it in our faces, Michelle.
She’s rich, and they were wealthy before hitting the campaign road. She can pretty much spend and do what she wants. Brie—if she spent that ridiculous amount of money on personal attire from her OWN personal income—so be it. It’s pretentious and obnoxious.
So I have to repeat—not my favorite First Lady by a long shot, however….well, I don’t know- not at the very bottom of the list either. Maybe….2nd or third. Many folks despised HRC as First Lady, and still do not like her now. I think she blows most away and has never gotten credit due for her work ethic, and many things she has done.
Strong women are always not the most “popular’> They intimidate others, male and female alike.
Does Michelle practice what she preaches? Not consistently enough. Is she a walking train wreck like her Husband, our President? Not as bad.
