McDonald’s Happy Meals Toys Deemed Dangerous, Could be Banned in Santa Clara County, CA

STOP THE MADNESS!!!

McDonald’s  Happy Meal Toys … Public Enemy #1, good grief.

Could the wing-nuts on the LEFT be any more intrusive and insane these days? Now the meddlesome LEFT does not stop at banning foods, fats and salt … they want to ban Happy Meal toys. Will this nonsense ever end?

A county supervisor has created a stir with his proposal to bar the inclusion of toys in restaurant meals that contain high amounts of sugar, salt or certain fats.

The latest target in the battle over fast food is something you shouldn’t even put in your mouth.

Convinced that Happy Meals and other food promotions aimed at children could make kids fat as well as happy, county officials in Silicon Valley are poised to outlaw the little toys that often come with high-calorie offerings.

The proposed ban is the latest in a growing string of efforts to change the types of foods aimed at youngsters and the way they are cooked and sold. Across the nation, cities, states and school boards have taken aim at excessive sugar, salt and certain types of fats.

What business is it of a government to tell a private company how they are to market their product? Seriously, what is next … Kool-aide, cereal, juice? So these people are targeting a specific industry. Welcome to The People Republic of Santa Clara County.

Believed to be the first of its kind in the nation, the proposal would forbid the inclusion of a toy in any restaurant meal that has more than 485 calories, more than 600 mg of salt or high amounts of sugar or fat. In the case of McDonald’s, the limits would include all of the chain’s Happy Meals — even those that include apple sticks instead of French fries.

Supporters say the ban would encourage restaurants to offer more-nutritious foods to kids and would make unhealthful items less appealing. But opponents believe it amounts to government meddling in parental decisions. The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors will consider the proposal Tuesday.

Why stop with just banning the toys? Let’s throw the parents in jail for taking their kids to McDonald’s in the first place. How dare parents subject their children to such abuse?!!!!

A national poll conducted by MediaCurves.com among 301 viewers of a video clip highlighting potential government regulation of toys in fast-food kids’ meals found that majority of parents (82%) reported that the U.S. government should not regulate toys in fast-food kids’ meals. In addition, the majority of parents (77%) indicated that child obesity rates would stay the same if toys were banned from fast-food restaurant meals. I think this is a little too “en detail”. What I would point out though, is that kid’s associations can be positively influenced by this.
By offering additional reward associated with healthy food, this could turn out to mean very positive conditioning for kids.

It certainly is a bold idea.

Tasting bitter or sour unfortunately is a survival tactic of vegetables. If broccoli tasted like french fries with chocolate, we would have no problem.

Geese… what are you going to do next? Just kill the children, then we won’t have to worry about Happy Meals or fat kids? This is just the beginning of many bad things that are about to happen to our country. We need to nip this one in the bud and let these assholes know that if we want to buy a stupid meal in a box, that happens to include a toy, then that’s our choice…. Grrrrrrr!

I agree with what some people have to say that California should use the taxpayers’ money for a better cause. Everything we have has to be advertised in some way or how else would people have jobs? It is their job to sell the product. Also the parents should be aware of the nutrition facts that McDonalds has. If they are so concerned they shouldn’t even take their child there. They should just simply say no to their child if they don’t want to take them there. Who is the authority here the child or the parent? Children become obese because the parents are too preoccupied with other things and aren’t making their kids eat healthier or making them get off the computer and go play outside. The toys are the least of the problems of the world. They should be checking what their child is doing on the computer with so many child predators out there.

The toy in the box doesn’t cause childhood obesity–the amount of all food consumed with the lack of physical activity today causes obesity just like it does in adults. When I was a kid we ran outside and played until someone made us come in–we were active. Today the rules have changed and kids are indoors more playing video games and on computers hence the increased obesity just like in adults. I eat the same but I’m not active and guess what? I gain weight. How foolish do we have to get before someone understands you can’t solve the problem simply by taking away the toy. You can’t legislate common sense apparently.

How freaken stupid. How many time have you seen some fat a$$ mother feeding her two year old Dr Pepper with there breakfast or lunch a Mickey D’s. Yea, even using there food stamps or welfare money. its the dumb parents not the toy the kid gets with there food that turns them into some over stuffed moron. All sweet little babys start out the same in this world, its the goofy parents that turn them into what they become…… Wow Jerry lighten up :-)

It’s all about personal responsibility. The “they think they are elitist” liberals think regular hard working American folk are stupid and idiots and need to hold our hand. This is another way of striping down our freedoms to pursue our happiness.

Why does the govn’t need to tell us how to parent our children?

I agree with the poster that said when were we younger we played outside past dark; on school nights; playing hoops, riding bikes; whatever. I don’t let my kids play video games and I won’t when they get a little older either. I take my kids outside whenever possible. I also coach little ones; baseball football and basketball so I keep my kids active; that’s what’s keeps them healthy not some dumb toy that we usually throw out anyways. My 5 year old son isn’t into toys and that; he’s into sharks and marine aquatics; into to marine biology; etc…. education!

I do think that our kids are subjected to eating a whole lotta crap these days… but that’s the fault of the parents and no one else. Here’s the blog I wrote about telling parents to man up and say “no” to things like McDonald’s if they don’t like it: http://urbansuburbanfamily.squarespace.com/home/2010/6/28/mcdonalds-toy-scandal-enough-already.html
