RESPECT? President Obama Misses Polish President Funeral Due to Volcanic Ash … Heads to Golf Course
What is wrong with this President that he cannot think that the following would be bad form and a show of complete disrespect?
President Obama’s trip was canceled to Poland to attend the funeral of the Polish President Lech Kaczynski and his wife, Maria due to the plumes of smoke and ash from an Icelandic volcano that has wreaked havoc for air travel. The volcanic eruption and subsequent air travel issues caused many world leaders to miss the funeral, which is understandable.
However, how many of these leaders took that free time to pay their respects to the deceased Polish President by playing golf? We know that Barack Obama did. Is this how a President of the United States shows his condolences to a US ally?
A massive volcanic plume covering most of Europe forced President Obama to cancel a Sunday trip to Poland to attend the funeral of the nation’s president. But the last-minute change left an opening in his schedule, so the president headed to the links for a round of golf instead.
Polish President Lech Kaczynski and his wife, Maria, along with dozens of top Polish government officials were killed April 10 when their airplane went down in heavy fog after clipping a tree on approach to Smolensk, Russia.
Mr. Obama has not gone to the Polish Embassy in Washington since the accident, but Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. both have. There, they signed a condolence book.
Let’s hope the Presidents round of golf played better than the news of Obama’s decision to play golf did in Poland. Nope. The news did not play well there at all.
This past weekend was supposed to be a busy one for Obama, including an overnight Saturday flight to the president’s funeral in Poland. However, the American begged off that trip, citing volcanic ash over Europe. Coincidentally, that decision enabled the U.S. president to get in a round of golf with friends in Maryland on Sunday afternoon, the 32d round of his 15-month presidency. That recreational activity didn’t play too well in Poland.
There is some thing inherently wrong with one’s character when they do things like heading off to the golf course for a round of golf when they were supposed to have been at a foreign head of state funeral. This is how he replaced the free time of showing respect to a deceased friend of the United States? Then again when a President mocks his own citizens for their political dissent, what else could we ever expect?
Powerline reminds us of when Democrats used to criticize former President GWB for playing golf during the Iraq war. Some thing that Bush finally stopped doing altogether out of respect. On the very day that the Polish President is laid to rest, Obama goes golfing … How is that hope and change working out for you America?
Interestingly enough, where is the MSM reporting this story? No double standard here now is there. Obviously Obama would have wanted to attend the funeral, but to play golf when the trip was canceled … no class.
It’s all about character, or the lack thereof.

Amazing how the liberal MSM isn’t making a big deal of this?
And to top it off, Bush would tear up Obama on a golf course. Again, my neighbor who saw this clown play golf on at least 8 of these excursions, says he’s terrible; just terrible.
Absolutely no class whatsoever.
Funny how our president couldn’t find a way to make the Poland trip, yet Al Roker (Today Show) traveled there and back late last week without a problem. What a disgusting, disrespectful, disingenious fool…
President Obama spent the day golfing?!? It would have been preferable for him to:
1. Attend church and say a prayer for all the victims of one of the greatest tragedies in Polish history.
2. Stop at the Polish Embassy to share his thoughts and support in their condolence book as Vice President Biden and Secretary Clinton have already done.
3. Invite prominent Polish-Americans or Polish residents and dignitaries over to the White House.
4. Do anything not involving publicly playing games on a day of mourning for an allied country that recently lost the bulk of their leadership in a horrible accident.
5. At the very least, show the awareness to do any recreational activity privately indoors (like a basketball game at the White House away from the media) or just spend a nice day with his family and kids.
Choosing to golf instead on such a day was surprising. Very surprising.
Mr Illinois, You mention awareness for our Mr. Obama. I’m afraid it is there, but only within his own magnificent and egotistical self-hood. Other than himself, he’s not aware of much.
you ppl have heared that the European airspace has been closed totaly?
Obama isn’t that only 1 not attending because of this.
Merkel (German pm)
Balkenende (Dutch pm)
Harper (Canadian pm)
The UK royal familie
The Spanish royal familie
The Dutch royal familie
and many others.
The extent you people go to manipulate some foolish minds. Many leaders didn’t attend the ceremony, sadly enough even neighbouring countries who’s leaders could drive to Poland and back before the president would reach by plane didn’t attend the ceremony,it was nice weather yesterday and amazingly many leaders who are in shape, participated in an outdoor activity.Don’t take my word for it go look for yourself,to bad if you believe most what’s written here you must have a pea brain so don’t even bother.
so why bitch at Obama when even the neighbours (Merkel) can’t attend.
It isnt’ that he cancelled the trip (a lot of other did, as noted above), or that he played golf when the trip was cancelled…it is that he spent no time at all acknowledging Poland’s tragedy. How hard would it have been to stop by the embassy, or better yet…and here’s a publicity stunt big enough for Obama only….get the media over to the White House, get the family into some old clothes, and plant a tree for the fallen leader(s)…then he satisfies his OBLIGATION to recognize an allies grief, gives a little something to the environmental wackos, AND gets even more press and TV time, which is something he loves. the whole thing would’ve taken 20-30 minutes, the moment and symbolism would have lasted forever, and he could have still gone golfing and not caught a bit of flack for it….just a thought….
dolf – go crawl back in your cardboard box.
you don’t get the point because you’re an idiot.
it’s not that he played golf you tool. he could have taken an hour of his day to stop by the Polish Embassy and pay his respects. Sending Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden is a slap in the face of leaders everywhere. This is another step in the unprofessionalism that befits Obama as President.
Get it now tool?
As Mr Illinois stated, he could have done something to honor them and then maybe played golf afterwards, or how about creating jobs and fixing the budget or hurry up and pass health care for all those people dying in the streets but not help them for four years, oh yeah he did all that, didn’t he? In his own special way I guess.
He could have flown home and honored them, didn’t he know that Chicago has a huge Polish poulation. I guess he never had to organixize their community or sue citi bank to loan them money for homes they can’t afford.

dolf and fearless, back away from the bong and read the subject of the post again, geesh.
Oh, I just noticed that the mourners are clinging to their bibles so it is self explainatory why he didn’t go there.
“It’s all about character, or the lack thereof.”
Couldn’t agree more.
I’m sending a note to the Polish Consulate in Chicago offering codolences. As many above have said, Obama offered nothing to the Polish people in light of this tragedy. I often hear that Chicago has more poles than any city other than Warsaw. Once again, Obama shows his true colors. I’m still proud of America, but not our President.
hank you for this, at least now we know, who our REAL friends are. It’s kinda ironic, because our , now dead, President, was very pro american, and rather anti russian. Somehow Russian president managed to be there and pay respect. Now people in Poland feel more sympathy for russians and know, that we can’t depend on USA or European Union, because when we are in need, they always give some lame excuses. They promise many things, but after all, it’s just talking. Our history proves that. During Second War, you (western world) didn’t help us neither. We were all alone. nevermind
Merkel didn’t attend for she got caught up by the ash in the air on her way back from the States – she had to go down to Portugal, then somewhere through Rome and could not even return easily to her country. How on earth do you expect her to attend the funeral? And did SHE play golf?
Though, no clue why Brussels EU delegates didn’t come, if some others managed…?
@14
your right about Poland being shafted after ww2.
but your late president was slightly xenophobix and totaly against the EU, so don’t give the crap about friends.
and ps. the western world did come to help.
that what started ww2.
its only after it was clear that the Germans were going to be defeated that Roosevelt and Stalin made the deal which sold Poland out to the USSR
Dolf, sorry but Russia had their eye on Poland as well as the rest of Europe. Poland belonged to Russia the minute Hitler crossed into Russia.
nnnnds, unfortunatly we could not gear up for that kind of war at that time. US was isolationists and needed Pearl Harbor to change all that.
true, but they were sold out pretty cheaply.
only Churchill stood up for them.
the western allies would have defeated the red army.
but i don’t mind history turned out the way it did.
