- A case of taking things too far? 9 year old suspended from Maury County school in Columbia, TN for gang-like hair cut. The twins attended Randolph Howell Elementary School, said the school. The suspension has been lifted and the boys are back in school. Is this PC gone too far or trying to stop the glorification of gang-like behavior at a young age, you make the call.
“If they’ve done it to my kids, they’ve done it to everybody else’s kids,” Edwards said, “but nobody wants to stand up. Well, I’ll stand up. Teachers and principals are making their own rules.”
Edwards said he was told by a principal after the suspensions were issued Tuesday morning that his boys could not return until they shaved their heads.

The only thing I would say in defense of the school is that Columbia, TN has a terrible gang problem. TERRIBLE.
One would not think it, but its as bad as any inner-city LA school area.
We are at a crossroad America. Schools have become too political- the agenda has changed from education to government politically correct compliance! I will say I completely disagree with a child being suspended for their hair style, but what is the answer? Parents are going to court over attendance rates and tardies daily. Most schools now have their own police force. In Washington a school aided a 15 year old with an abortion- they put her in a cab and arranged this procedure during school hours. I received a threatening letter when my son missed four days of school because he was SICK! Where do we draw this line? Things used to be different for “us”. When did they change? Clinton, Bush, Obama? None of the above!They changed when we weren’t paying attention. They changed when two boys walked into a school and opened fire! Teachers no longer have control over their students- they are treated with disrespect by the students who know they will get away with it.
I am in no way agreeing with the suspension of these kids- I am saying it is time to wake up and find a way to get school back to being school! Not a political debate, not a drug store, not a fight club- How do we accomplish this?
NoseyRosey you are right. Having been in the classroom for eight years following my retirement from business, I can tell you that schools cannot teach anymore due to the fact that at least fifty-percent of students come from homes that do not teach their children respect for others.
Until we force the population to be respectful and provide consequences to children who are not, we can expect that most of our school taxes will be wasted since little education can be accomplished in an unruly environment.
