More change you can believe in from Barack Obama. During the Presidential campaign Barack Obama promised to get a million plug-in hybrid cars on the road by 2015. However, the Obamamobile that The Chosen One will be using will be a gas guzzler. Hey Barack, it’s not easy being green is it? It’s much easier to yell others how to be green than do it yourself. Obama’s promises of being the most “green” President may be just one of many campaign promises that those who supported Obama may be gravely disappointed.
Obama repeated his campaign pledge to reduce carbon emissions by 80% by 2050 and to invest $15 billion a year on energy-saving technologies despite the economic melt-down.
The Obamobile hardly passes as green. One would think the promise from the most “green” President would have provided some symbolism of sorts with his ride. It certainly would have been a message of change if the Presidential limo was, say a hybrid.
The Obamobile being prepared for the president-elect is said to be a monster gas-guzzler made by General Motors, the troubled car giant. It will look like a black Cadillac but is built like a tank. A spy photographer who tracks down future car models for magazines snatched pictures of the heavily disguised first-car-in-waiting when it was being road-tested last summer.
The armour-plated car, which has a raised roof, windows up to 5in thick, extra-strength tyres and a body made of steel, aluminium, titanium and ceramics, is thought to be based on a GMC 2500 truck that gets less than 10 miles to the gallon. Three cars are believed to be in production so that two can serve as decoys.
While security is paramount – the car is built to survive roadside bombs as well as gunfire – there are hybrid four-wheel drives on the market, such as Ford’s Mercury Mariner, which some critics believe could have been adapted for the president.

Why is it necessary to get a new limousine anyway?
This story just came out … another broken campaign promise? It may be the right idea … but if this does happen, will the media explode? I can hear the cries of “Sellout” now.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President-elect Barack Obama may consider delaying a campaign promise – to roll back tax cuts on high-income Americans – as part of his economic recovery strategy, two aides said on Sunday.
David Axelrod, the Obama campaign strategist who was chosen to be a senior White House adviser, was asked if the tax cuts could be allowed to expire on schedule after tax year 2010 rather than being rolled back by legislation earlier. “Those considerations will be made,” he said on “Fox News Sunday.”
Bill Daley, an adviser to Obama and commerce secretary under former President Bill Clinton, said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that the 2010 scenario “looks more likely than not.”
President George W. Bush’s tax cuts are set to expire at the end of 2010. After that they would revert to 2001 levels, when the top individual tax rate was 39.6 percent.
Obama has called for reducing taxes for the middle class, but requiring the wealthiest Americans to pay more than the current top rate of 35 percent.
His aides’ comments suggest Obama may be wary of imposing any additional tax burden at a time of deep crisis, despite the outlook for record budget deficits and mounting national debt. He may also be seeking to bolster Republican support for his recovery measures.
“The main thing right now is to get this economic recovery package on the road, to get money in the pockets of the middle class, to get these projects going, to get America working again, and that’s where we’re going to be focused in January,” Axelrod said.
Obama said on Saturday he was crafting an aggressive two-year stimulus plan to revive the economy, aiming to save 2.5 million jobs by January 2011 through projects including transportation infrastructure, school modernization and alternative energy.
Obama called in October for a $175 billion stimulus measure, but he suggested he was ready to push for a much larger package.
U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, a New York Democrat who is part of the majority leadership team in the Senate, told ABC’s “This Week” that an economic recovery package between $500 billion and $700 billion is needed and could be ready by the time Obama takes office on January 20.
“I think it has to be deep. In my view it has to be between five and seven hundred billion dollars,” Schumer said.

Obama’s personal car is a hybrid. His safety is #1 and it would be more difficult to protect him in a Prius, don’t you think? He has little control over matters of personal safety. For example, he is big on blackberry email and communication and I understand for safety reasons he will not be able to use this form of communication, once in office.
How do you fit 6 security guys along with other folks you are meeting with in a prius?

Make no bones about it either—-because of all the comparison’s of JFK’s regime to now our new President-Elect Obama….security is heightened like never before. There have already been numerous death threats, like those 2 whack job White Skinheads that were arrested.

All Presidents need extra security, that’s not rocket science but this is extreme and why does it have to be a gas guzzler? You would think they could take a hybrid and modify it to be just a safe.
BTW, we can wear out Republican hats as long as we wish just as you wear your Liberal hat but we don’t have to bow down and worship “the chosen one”.

Given the history of the way in which black leaders have been treated in the past, there is no wonder that the people want to protect their President. As for me, I have been here long enough to see how the ignorant ones are still around. Who knows, maybe people like Brie and Super Dave will try to fulfill their own prophecies and reek havoc on this country. Unfortunately, President-Elect Obama represents more than freedom, liberty and justice for all; he represents ‘equality’!

Every Presidential limo is of the latest technology for the protection of the President. That is a given.
You can’t switch over to a green vehicle with its unproven track record. Should something happen where they need that proven gas powered direct drive transmission, it will do its job.
That is the problem of “going green” in our lifetime. Every industry is geared to “black”. It has been that way for a long time and the effort it will take to switch over to green is huge.
The point of this thread is that it is not easy to go green. Something that should have been taken into consideration when Obama promised the stars to the American people. Either he does not understand the difficulty of going green or he is a liar.
You tell me.
Do you all really think that Obama even has input into his presidential car at this point? Do you also expect him to fly commercial jets, too? Ride a bike to/from Congress? I will concede that Mr. Gore could make better decisions, but let us all be realistic here.
If this has been in production since Summer Time, it was not “designed for Obama”, it is clearly “designed for the president” regardless of who that is.
Lastly, although you might not be able to “recall” other presidents having special cars made; they did, and they do. The reason you don’t “recall” it is because it is not news. Presidents and secret service agents have been car-paranoid since Kennedy was shot in one.

I hope ya’ll realize that we are not talking one car here. One car is not transported all over the place. And that goes for the whole motorcade. At least, that is my understanding. A very good friend used to transport the secret service via C-141′s in the military and once in LA, he was told that the cars are in the most popular cities, so there are several cars. Once air force one lands, the car is waiting on him to hop in. Occasionally they do have to transport, I’m sure…
