The City of Philly has still never learned any lessons from that fateful October day in 1999 when a city lost its collective soul.
The City of Philadelphia shows once again what it is made of. Last night at the Flyers home opener, Sarah Palin, Willow and her 6 year old daughter Piper were resoundingly booed by the Philadelphia Flyer faithful. So much for class and respect. However, what exactly did anyone expect? It’s Philly, as Hot Air states … at least she made it out alive. Any one knows who has attended a sporting event in Philly and rooted for the away team knows they are taking their life in their hands.
Honestly, what would have anyone expected from Philly fans who in the past booed Santa Claus and threw snow balls at him? However, nothing was worse in the history of sports fans than the disgusting behavior shown by Philly fans when Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irving suffered a neck injury in old Veterans Stadium. The Philly fans actually cheered as Michael Irving lay motionless on Veterans Field.
“I couldn’t believe they cheered when Michael Irvin got hurt,” said Donovan McNabb, the team’s No. 1 pick who was nearly booed off the stage by Eagles fans attending the draft. “You don’t know what to expect from them.”
Many fans in the crowd of 66,669 cheered when they realized Irvin was hurt, and again when paramedics wheeled a stretcher onto the field. Many also cheered respectfully when he was placed in an ambulance, but the damage was done.
“Some people need to grow up and find some inner peace, because there is no peace in watching somebody suffer,” said Irvin’s teammate, Emmitt Smith.
“This, in terms of bad taste, was as bad as it gets,” said Mayor Edward Rendell, an avid sports fan.
We are reminded by The Gateway Pundit that all week we have heard liberals and the MSM talk about how mean Republican campaign stops have been.
The New York Times wishes to make excuses for the rude or boorish behavior of Philly by stating that the appearance was not appropriate. Funny, politicians go to sporting events all the time and the fans whether they support the candidate or not at least act with some class. I do not remember the NASCAR crowd acting with such ill-mannered behavior. If NASCAR fans had ever booed Obama and his children the MSM would have called them racists and a modern day lynching.
While Philadelphia fans are known for not being shy about voicing disapproval, the question has been raised — including by me in an earlier version of this post — whether the appearance was appropriate at a sports event like this.
I do have to take exception and question the McCain/Palin campaign as to what the hell they were thinking in having Sarah Palin with her two daughters go into Navy Blue Democratic territory like Philly where their fans have always been nothing short of rudely insane. Did they think Sarah was gong to be cheered?

NYT Pulls Misleading Account of Palin Puck Dropping Ceremony
The boos may have been exagerated; however, there were still boos.
In her original post Zinser exaggerated the boos by the crowd, attacked Flyers owner Ed Snider for inviting Palin to the event and appears to have fabricated the discomfort felt by NHL players Scott Gomez and Mike Richards.
That account has since been changed. Somewhere along the line Zinser gutted the original article and replaced it with a new one that came a bit closer to reality.

A carpet was laid down and Palin, dressed in a beige trench, walked on to the ice joined by her daughters Willow and Piper. The GOP Vice-Presidential nominee said at an earlier fundraiser that she would stop some of the booing from the rowdy Philadelphia fans by putting her seven year old daughter, Piper in a Flyers jersey. She said, “How dare they boo Piper!”
Her secret weapon may have worked. The crowd in this staunchly Democratic city –visited today by Barack Obama—gave Palin mixed reviews. There were audible boos over the very loud music and some in the crowd had their thumbs down, but there were also many people clapping and cheering the GOP Vice-Presidential nominee.

If Mom (or dad) didn’t come to those soccer games, kids would be terribly hurt and disappointed. It takes a very special Mom to not only get the kids to the games, but stay there and support them.

ACORN was the one insisting banks make loans they normally would not make. ACORN called it “racism” because many of the unemployed or those on welfare were minorities.
Regulation my foot: Yes, there was suppose to be regulations on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac but Chris Dodd and group, who had oversight, weren’t listening when Republicans told them the 2 F’s were out of control. The Democrats fought against any additional oversight of the 2 F’s.

Does anybody who writes about philly fans booing ever actually investigate what they write. The forty year old story of a drunk poorly dressed santa claus who got one snowball thrown and heckled has become over glorified. But everyone who writes a story about philly has to add it. palin at the game, which i was at, was more cheered than booed and by the way the vast majority of philadelphians are democrats. I will agree that the few people who booed Irvin were completely wrong. But this was also overblown it was not the majority of the stadium. There is one thing that will never happen in philly, people sitting on thier hands watching a game we are vocal and into every game with a passion.
When you pay $200 for a decent seat at game, you don’t want to be part of a captive audience for a political stunt by a major Republican contributor who has maxed out the amount of money he can give McCain. Will Sarah Palin ever stop putting her children in harmful situations to further her own ambitions? Poor Piper. You can’t pick your parents.

I was at the game and I can tell you there were far more cheers then boos. In fact, the only time I heard the “boos” was after I got home and saw the left wing media talk about it. I can’t remember a time when a political figure on any level or party has not received at least some boos while attending a sporting event. The country is split almost 50/50 down party lines, so it should be no surprise in a building with 18,000 people in it, some do not like Gov. Palin.
In my opinion, the lefties figured she would get killed (figuratively, not literally) out there, and when she didn’t, they have been left looking stupid again. So in order to save face, they print things like “resoundingly booed”.
This country would be a whole lot better if the media spent half as much time talking about the people Barack Obama has been friends with as they have making up stories to show Palin in a bad light.
Hurray for all of you informed progressive democrats. You are reading the facts and are tired of the sugar-coated BS the republican party and right wing religious have been trying to feed us. Yes, Palin is a dynamic woman. It’s too bad she’s racing with the wrong team. McCain is foolish enough to believe that she’s going to pull in the women’s vote when she believes that abortion is wrong even in the case of incest or rape. Rape kits cost between $500 and $1200. I wonder how many rape victims failed to follow through with reporting their rapes after finding out they had to pay for the rape kits out of their own pocket if they weren’t insured.

Obviously, you didn’t get my point. Raising kids these days takes more than an interest in the sports they play. My kids, both, played Premier soccer, indoor and out, 12 months a year; so I know what it’s like to run your kids to practice three times a week and games that take up your whole weekend. But, that isn’t the extent of a mother’s responsibility. There’s alot more to life than soccer and hockey. We have to set an example for our kids, rise above our own personal vendettas and do the right thing.
Palin is going to be reviewed for her actions. It seems that, this time, she used her political power to have an ex-in-law fired from his job. Last time she was reviewed, it had to do with firing a police chief because he was concerned about the safety of the citizens in wanting the bars to close at 2 a.m., instead of 5 a.m. She skated around that one, but the firing of a public official out of vindictiveness is not going to be so easy to get around. Besides, what kind of mother would insist that bars stay open until 5 a.m…. and what kind of example is she setting for her kids? Obviously, instilling ethics into our childrens hearts and minds is alot more important than playing games.
