The hurricane season is heating up and 3 tropical storms and hurricanes are right upon us. As the eastern coast deals with Tropical storm Hanna, all eyes are of Hurricane Ike.

Tropical storm Hanna is presently hammering the Carolina coast with heavy rains and wind. Coastal flooding is expected as storm surge flooding along the South Carolina and North Carolina coasts s with surge flooding of one foot to three feet above normal tide levels. Tropical Storm Hanna is expected to cause rain and flooding up the entire East Coast.

“Hanna is heading north in a hurry, leaving behind sunshine for the weekend,” said Myrtle Beach city spokesman Mark Kruea.

He said city services would be open and that “despite a week of preliminary hype” the storm didn’t have much of an impact on the city aside from a few downed trees and some power outages that were repaired in less than a half-hour. It was the same story in eastern North Carolina, where Hanna had top winds of around 50 mph after coming ashore around 3:20 a.m.Hurrican_Ike_090608

My daughter lived in Pensacola, now right by it in Fort Walton Beach.. she teaches 1st grade. IKE is the one that worries me the most. She said she is glad this is her last year teaching and living in Florida.. Her fiance won’t live there.. She is getting married next summer and moving to Missouri. They had tornados about 5 miles from her last week with Hurricane Gustav and winds..but didn’t lose her power and missed the worst of it.
