It was reported last night that authorities had made an arrest in the senseless murder of 18 year old Auburn freshman Lauren Burk. Lauren Burk was found suffering from a gunshot wound on the side of a road near campus Tuesday night. She died later a hospital. Today, authorities announced that 23 year old Courtney Lockhart was arrested and has been charged with capital murder in death of Auburn freshman Lauren Burk.
We have consistently posed the question … why are these people allowed to walk among us? Why does it take career scum bags and thugs to kill before we take their actions serious? The end result is the senseless death of Lauren Burk, a life taken far too soon.
“We have the right individual in jail,” said Tommy Dawson, assistant chief of Auburn police department. “I’m 100 percent sure of that.” Kudos to law enforcement on their diligence and speed to apprehend this menace to society. Let’s hope their is a needle in his future.
Specifically Lockhart is charged with capital murder during a kidnapping; capital murder during a robbery; and capital murder during an attempted rape, according to a police statement.
Lockhart was arrested in Phenix City Friday after a high-speed chase.
According to WRBL News 3, Lockhart admitted to investigators that he committed at least five armed robberies in the area in recent weeks.
In addition, Lockhart is wanted in connection with an attempted carjacking and armed robbery in Newnan, Ga., Friday morning, the Newnan Times-Herald reported today.
He faces charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault, kidnapping, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, the Times-Herald reported.

Auburn police officials have announced that a 23-year-old arrested in Phenix City faces three capital murder charges in the death of Auburn University student Lauren Burk.
The man, Courtney Lockhart of Smiths Station, was arrested in Phenix City on Friday after a traffic stop.
He had been sought in a string of other crimes.
Police have determined that Burk was abducted from the Auburn campus as a random victim while she was getting into her car Tuesday night, a police official said Friday night.

Could? What do you mean could? The man is charged with capital murder during a kidnapping, a robbery; and an attempted rape. What other charges are necessary for having a needle applied to Lockhart’s arm, sodomy, and driving without a license? If there was ever a candidate for the death penatly, Courtney Lockhart is it. He is a career thug with no purpose in life except to have his right to life taken away.

Death penalty…why do we have to pay taxes to keep these criminals alive, you can’t rehabilitate them, they serve some time, then released and do it all over again. I don’t really know what goes through a criminals mind but it they knew the consequences would be always be death maybe it might change one’s mind considering the consequences.

Yes, this is a tragic and senseless act by all means, but what evidence do the police have that connects him to Lauren Burk’s death? I’m not fully convinced that he is repsonsible for her death because I feel that all of it [the supposed evidence] all seems circumstantial and not definite. I just feel it’s possible that the cops were just looking for someone to pin it on, while the REAL killer of Lauren Burk is still on the loose. Why is everyone so quick to say he should die, hope he rots, etc.?? It hasn’t even been proven yet that he’s responsible for her death…I just don’t understand it sometimes.
These two college killers are utterly worthless human beings, with no redeeming value whatsoever. So, they choose to take the lives of 2 young women who had more going for them in their little fingers than these two could hope to possess in 5 lifetimes. After researching the death sentence last night to blow off some steam…I started to feel uplifted to find out that the South is really good at condemning and sending their animals back to the depths of Hell. Also this he is looking at 3 Capital charges, and by Alabama states defines a charge eligible for the death sentence as a capital offense which is committed during the commission of, attempt of, or escape from a specified felony (such as robbery, kidnapping, rape, sodomy, arson, oral copulation, train wrecking, carjacking, criminal gang activity, drug dealing, or aircraft piracy). So we have a 3 chances to get this monkey, the only thing I worry about now is if his defense lawyer petitions for a change of venue due to him not being able to get a “Fair” trial in Auburn. Because I KNOW if he stays in Auburn the trial will last about as long as the jurors take to sign their name to send him to the 2,000 Volt chair while Auburn watches his body boil to 138 degrees F.

First of all, I don’t want to hear that this guy had a terrible upbringing and his problems were caused by his environment. I was raised in a single parent family by my mother. She raised four of us and we had to go to the food bank, lived in public housing and we were on welfare for a while. But we all turned out pretty good. Not a murderer in the whole bunch. This guy is EVIL and needs to be pt to death ASAP. TO be an effective deterrent, the death penalty has to be used quickly after conviction. This guy is guilty, see #23 and it helps frame the criminal. Yes, he was black. But there are many different races who kill. Muslim fanatics, Colombian terrorists, Venezuelan dictators, Pol Pot. Get my drift? No matter who it is, they should be dealt with swiftly.
I think many prosecutors who want to seek the death penalty are deterred by the knowledge that they will have to put so much time and resources into fighting for it that, realistically, it just may not be worth the effort.

I think instead of beating up Courtney for what he did, lets take a moment to reflect. First off I served with this young man in Iraq in 2004/2005 that entire year he was in his right state of mind because there was help avaliable. But what about after he got out of the service? Did anyone realize he was headed down a path of destruction and try to get him some early intervention! probably not. My heart goes out to the family of this young girl who lost her life. No i am not saying what he did was right but i think it is evident that our soldiers are coming back with some serious problems. i did three tours in the combat zone but i’m in my right mind.
If Courtney actually IS a veteran, I suspect he was messed up long before he ever walked into the recruiting station. I have absolutely no sympathy for him whatsoever. FRY him! That’s assuming he’s guilty, of course.

I have SEVERAL friend that served in Vietnam and a few of them were messed up when they got back but guess what? Not a damn one of them murdered anybody. I also do not care if the person is purple, if he is found guilty by a jury I thinks he needs to be put to a PAINFUL death within a week. I personally am tired of paying to keep shit like that alive and paying to feed, clothe and take care of them for years. They get better medical care than a large portion of Americans. I do not feel like building more prisons. At the rate we are going we are going to have the largest percentage of our population in prisons. I can think of a whole lot of better ways to spend that money. I would start with spending it on food ,clothes and medical care for the Americans that do not have it.

This is a horrible crime, and I have to tell you when troops do start returning there will be an upsurge in crime. It happened after WWII, Vietnam, Desert Storm and even happened after the Civil War. This is what war does. I think the point eveyone should remember is this poor girl lost her life. The killer was caught and will be brought to justice. Who knows if that is killing the young man or not but he will have to repay society for his actions.For those of you that think that crime is conducted only by blacks recheck your stats. These two murders are totally unacceptable. As an African American Male, myself, I am in support of the Death Penalty for both of the culprits.
However, white people are so quick to bring out their animalistic hatred towards Blacks in situations such as these. They over-react and then later, they are apologetic, for example, the many lynchings, rampant bigotry, abundant racism. They over-react with their hatred and say and/or do something hideous and then they try to apologize for it later. As an African-American and junior at Auburn University. I am very shocked and hurt. I am hurt because she was from my school and she was sooo young. Even though I didn’t know her personally but judging from the out pour of concern from my fellow classmates and hearing them talking about her it just makes me want to cry. Now what that said, I am shocked to hear all of these racial comments. This is not the time for bashing races. In doing that you taking away the fact that we lost a very beautiful young lady. Forget the statistics about what race kills the most. I took a statistics class and they are not reliable especially when it comes to crimes such as murder. And I am going to be honest, at first I was that person who was disappointed when he turned out to be black. But then I had to remind my self crime has no color. What about that 16 year old girl who killed her mother and two little brothers because they wanted her to breakup with her boyfriend? What color did you think she was? What about the women who killed her four daughters and kept their rotting corpses in the house for weeks. What color do you think she was? It’s amazing how you all spend so much time on this site attacking people of color. Not all Black people rob and rape and kill, as you would all like to believe.
