Disputed Book , “The Education of Little Tree,” Pulled From Oprah Winfrey Web Site
OOOOOPS!!!
The disputed book, “The Education of Little Tree”, has been removed from the coveted recommended Oprah book list blaming an archival “error” for including a work considered the literary hoax of a white supremacist.
Can this finally be a lesson to all those that think that Oprah is the end all be all and follow her ever word blindly? Just because Oprah says its a good book, does not make it so. With the power that Oprah has to make or break a book or anything that she discusses for that matter, one might think that they will be a little more careful in the future before giving a book the Midas touch.
Oprah Winfrey has pulled a discredited children’s book, Forrest Carter’s “The Education of Little Tree,” from a list of recommended titles on her Web site, blaming an archival “error” for including a work considered the literary hoax of a white supremacist.
“The archived listing was posted in error and has been removed,” Winfrey spokeswoman Angela DePaul told The Associated Press on Tuesday, adding that she did not know long “Little Tree” had been on the site.

“I am surprised, of course, that Winfrey would recommend it,” says Lorene Roy, president of the American Library Association. “Besides the questions about the author’s identity, the book is known for a simplistic plot that used a lot of stereotypical imagery.”

Although it is very puzzling that Oprah recommended this book considering all the controversy surrounding it that has existed for many years, it is still a good book, IMHO. I do not condone white supremacy in any form or fashion, but the book is very well written and the story is excellent.
