Hardly Great Moments in Sports: Michael Vick, Ref Tim Donaghy and Jose Offerman
Why are people in Sports making the headlines for all the wrong reasons? Whether its football, baseball or basketball, all have major scandals occurring as well as some bizarre behavior if performed off the baseball diamond would be considered felony assault. Has the elite sports athlete lost their minds? Why would those in sports, who do a job whether it be player or referee, that anyone else would dream of … give it all up and risk their careers?
Michael Vick is swimming up a river without the proverbial paddle. Prosecutors has given Vick until Friday to “Deal or no deal“. Michael Vick is all but looking at jail time, it just a matter of how much. He is also looking at most likely the end of a career as with new NFL rules in place, who would want to inherit this baggage no matter what the talent.
Ex-NBA Referee Tim Donaghy Pleads Guilty in NBA Betting Scandal
Donaghy faces a maximum of 25 years in prison when he is sentenced for conspiracy to engage in wire fraud and transmitting wagering information through interstate commerce. He was released on a $250,000 bond. Donaghy also must pay a $500,000 fine and at least $30,000 in restitution.
As the steroid cloud remains over Major League Baseball, we have players like Jose Offerman that think that some how getting hit by a pitch means you can go after someone with a baseball bat.

I was listen to a radio show this morning and the people our mad because they were Vick Fans and they think he is getting a bad rap because they say people have not heard his side of the story. Well from what I have heard if I had a 10 million dollar home I think that I would know what was going on their. Get real you can’t tell me he didn’t know about a dog arena on his land. It was right there in the open. REALLY!! And all these idoits that are rolling over for him and they think a few years in the pin and when I’m out Vick will take care of me! Wrong Vick ain’t gonna have no money cause he is going to have to give a great deal of it back to the NFL commission! 2 Wrongs don’t make a right Vick!
There was a coach for the Seattle Sonics that taught his players that you are what you picture yourself to be. If you picture yourself as a champion, your sub-conscience will make it happen. That year they won the NBA Title.
I suppose, in the case of Vick; if he pictures himself as a big-time gangster that can surround himself with friends to protect him from the law, only the part that is controllable by his own self-conscience can come true.
He knew that having dog fights was against the law and now he’s going to have to pay the price. I feel sorry for his family, they probably feel let down by him. Fo him to end up in jail is a waste of talent…. but it was his choice.
Don’t forget about the rampant cheating going on in NASCAR this year.
Good thing college football is soon here. Can’t wait till Sept 1st when Cal spanks the Vols in Berkeley.
USC will beat Texas to win the BCS championship (although I would love to see the Trojans go to LSU’s house and whoop them). You heard it here first.
