RED summons Hirsch Ballin after bribery attempt Namdar in Aruba

In Aruba, the bribery case of H.J Namdar is getting rather interesting. Recently, RED, has been like a one party wrecking crew going after MEP and the Aruban governments improprieties. One wonders how far this investigation will go.

Amigoe; April 4, 2007: RED summons Hirsch Ballin after bribery attempt Namdar

ORANJESTAD – Rudy Lampe (RED) wants an international investigation in the Namdar case.   On behalf of his party, he sent a letter to the Dutch Justice-minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin (CDA) on April 2nd, with the request to also involve the United States in this investigation.   Lampe has sent the US consulate-general Robert Sorenson a copy of the letter.

He wrote in his letter that several MEP-ministers were mentioned in the letter of Namdar, including the name of former minister Glenbert Croes of OLA and former MEP-minister and currently the governor of Aruba.   In his letter, Lampe points out article 43 of the Statute.   He concludes his letter with the hope that this case will be investigated thoroughly.

Glenbert Croes said that only Michael Williams was aware of the content of Namdar’s letter and that none of the names mentioned in the letter were involved with the case, neither those of Ivan Strick (FOL) and Gerrit Schotte (ex-MPK and now MAN).

On Friday and Saturday William was interrogated for hours at the police station in Noord.     His lawyer Duineveld said that he gave his view on the case.   The police are especially interested in documentation on this case.   According to unconfirmed reports, William has more compromising correspondence.     He told the police that the letter he has published has nothing to do with the case in Curacao, where also government people had   contact with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and with Namdar, but those contacts are from last year November and not from before 2004, the year that surfaced in the letter of H.J. Namdar.

The Washington Post Spanks Nancy Pelosi

Last week we mentioned how Nancy Pelosi was try playing politics with troop funding and then racing off to meet the enemy the Syrians. We received numerous comments saying how Republicans were on the trip and that we were way ahead of ourselves in criticizing Pelosi.

Well, if that is the case, then the Washington Post must have been infiltrated by Right Wing Zealots and taken over the editorial page. The Speakers disgraceful attempts at shuttle diplomacy are showing the world what a lightweight she is and also how dangerous the Democratic Speaker of the House can be when she tries to participate in international discussions.

With terms such as Pratfall, ludicrous, foolish, Pelosi has shown that she has visions of grandeur way beyond her capabilities. A champaign ego on a beer intellect.

And you know if Jimmy Carter is backing the trip it has to be a complete mess.

Pratfall in Damascus
Nancy Pelosi’s foolish shuttle diplomacy

HOUSE SPEAKER Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) offered an excellent demonstration yesterday of why members of Congress should not attempt to supplant the secretary of state when traveling abroad. After a meeting with Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad in Damascus, Ms. Pelosi announced that she had delivered a message from Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert that “Israel was ready to engage in peace talks” with Syria. What’s more, she added, Mr. Assad was ready to “resume the peace process” as well. Having announced this seeming diplomatic breakthrough, Ms. Pelosi suggested that her Kissingerian shuttle diplomacy was just getting started. “We expressed our interest in using our good offices in promoting peace between Israel and Syria,” she said.

Look Out Arubans … Looks Like Aruba Tourism in only for the Big Developers

Aruba is supposed to be known according to the ATA for its charm and nice treatment from the Aruban people. However, it would appear that Aruba is more about the large developers and mega-malls when it comes to tourism. So much for all the local shops owned by Arubans in downtown Oranjestad, looks like the powers that be in Aruba care more about the mega-developers. No wonder they are willing to do anything to protect tourism at all cost.

Amigoe; April 4, 2007: Mega-Mall forms a threat for the town center

ORANJESTAD — Developing a mega-mall near the cruise harbour will lead to unacceptable sales losses for all the stores and kiosks in the town center of Oranjestad.   AVP-party-leader Mike Eman calls the ‘plans’ of APA and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines (RCCL) unacceptable.   Also Benny Nisbet of the non-parliamentary party PPA is questioning the plans.

Having a shopping center right there at the cruise harbour will hurt all the businesses in the town center.   Why would the cruise tourists elsewhere, if everything they need and want is available right there.   The number of kiosks, shoppes, restaurants, and bars that are being threatened by the plans is big.   The Port of Call Mall has 21 stores; the Seaport Mall has 40; Royal Plaza Mall has 45; there are 32 businesses in the Havenstraat; the Caya Betico Croes (Mainstreet) has 144 businesses; the Shea Mall and Aventura Mall have both 9 stores; there are 8 stores on Plaza Daniel Leo; Bayside Mall has 48; Renaissance Mall has 57 stores; Holland Mall has 9; Wilhelminastraat has 30; and the 20 kiosks at the harbour entrance, and the 17 market halls at the ‘little harbour’.   A total of more than 400 stores and 40 restaurants that are endangered by the realization of this new mega-mall.
