Cha Ching – Viacom Suing Google For 1 Billion Over YouTube

So Google thought that it was free and clear after the purchase of YouTube and getting agreements with some of the major players in the industry? Think again.

It looks like the old media dinosaurs are thinking that Google will be the way to recoup their losses in other media fields and going after the internet company with both barrels.

Media conglomerate Viacom Inc. said on Tuesday it filed a $1 billion lawsuit against Google Inc. and its Internet video sharing site YouTube over unauthorized use of its copyrighted entertainment.
The suit accuses Web search leader Google and YouTube of “massive intentional copyright infringement” of Viacom’s entertainment assets and seeks an injunction against further violations.
Viacom contends that almost 160,000 unauthorized clips of its programming have been uploaded onto YouTube’s site and viewed more than 1.5 billion times. via  Reuters.com

Cheney Calls Out Congress On Supporting The Troops

Cheney_calls_out_congressLove him or hate him, Dick Cheney is a straight shooter when it comes to dealing with Congress. Today he explicitly called out the Congress to support the troops and do not punish them with a slow bleed as the Democrats have announced their strategy to be.

“When members of Congress pursue an anti-war strategy that’s been called ‘slow bleeding,’ they are not supporting the troops, they are undermining them,” Cheney said in a speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.
Cheney spoke at the start of a week in which the House plans to begin work on legislation providing nearly $100 billion for the rest of this year’s costs of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, President Bush’s full request for funds.
“Anyone can say they support the troops and we should take them at their word, but the proof will come when it’s time to provide the money,” Cheney said.
House Democratic leaders want to add provisions to the measure requiring the withdrawal of U.S. combat troops by the end of August 2008 and possibly by the end of 2007. Some anti-war Democrats prefer limiting the funds so the administration would essentially be forced to remove U.S. forces, a strategy that party leaders have abandoned. via  Yahoo! News.

If the Democrats are against the war as they say have the conviction to stand up and declare they will not finance the war passed a certain date. Instead these slimey politicians want to play the game of we support the troops while hamstringing them at every turn. If it out of Iraq you want, say so but do not be this two faced animal who is only trying to make political points without making a stand.

Either fund the war or not, but if you are going to fund the war be honest and fund it properly.

Parents of the Year Take Children Mountain Climbing

ScarfellpikeWhat does it take to be a responsible parent. Not a whole lot but taking a 14 month and 5 year old child mountain climbing in the winter is probably not a wonderful experience for the children.

Add to it that the family had to be rescued next to a 200 foot ravine after they got stuck in the dark makes matters worse.

Rescuers were called out when David and Sally Naylor, who had decided to climb Scafell Pike in the Lake District with their baby son and his five-year-old brother, got into difficulty.
They set out at noon on Monday, reaching the 3,210ft (978m) summit four hours later.
During the descent the Naylors lost their way and, as darkness fell, they found themselves stranded in low cloud in an area close to a 200ft ravine.
The alarm was raised at 7.30pm by a fellow climber who noticed that the family, from the village of Lynstone, near Bude, Cornwall, had failed to return to their car.
A team of 42 mountain rescuers and two search dogs were immediately scrambled and the Naylors — cold and wet but uninjured — were located just before midnight near the treacherous Piers Gill path.
The five-year-old boy was exhausted and had to be carried off the mountain on a stretcher.

I like this quote by an experienced climber. Do you wonder if social services should look into this case?

George Wilson, 58, said: “It’s insane to take small children up Scafell. It was incredibly irresponsible and put other people’s lives at risk.
“Scafell is not to be taken lightly by anyone at this time of year, even the most experienced climber, but to take two little kids, including a baby, up there is sheer madness.”  via TimesOnline.
