Does Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez have his Eye on Aruba? Talk about bad for their Economy

Does Hugo Chavez want to reunify the islands of The Dutch West Indies, including Aruba? Will it be called Venezaruba?    What is to stand in his way? The irrational and socialist actions of Hugo Chavez lately make one think that anything is possible when it comes to this demagogue.

With Chavez’s socialist  economic and land grab by  his government one would begin to worry what Hugo’s intentions are in the Caribbean. Aruba, being a stones throw from Venezuela could be a prime and easy target. Talk about bad for one’s tourist economy and private investment. Remember how quickly Cuba changed from a tourist hot spot to economic disaster.  For those that say it could never happen. Would anyone put anything past the insanity of a dictator like Hugo Chavez and what he is capable of?

If anyone wants to wonder why the US government never got more involved in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway and why they did not take Aruba to task, they need only to look to the unstable leader of Venezuela for their answer. Hugo’s actions directly affect American’s homeland security decisions.

There is a fight in our future there. If the ‘Democrat’ party wins, we do the fight later after the target is rock hard, the next time we have a real thinking pres rather than a ‘feel good’. ALready history tells us how that war will go, like the last two…extra US Soldiers lives will be cost due to our media interferrance, right off Hollywood pretenders will begin embolding the enemy with treasonist speech toward our own country. 6 months into the war major effort is made to run it by way of taking polls rather than the traditional winners way of — ‘thinking-do’.

My decendants will not serve in that war. Not if they follow my request. My Mom’s ancestry has served in many back to back wars for this country. But until treason is regorously defined, and media-enemy-in-the-camp is not allowed free pass in our ranks, and until punks like Sean Penn are seen as freeloaders and beneath honorable servers, my plan is my foreseeable decendants are through serving. If Dan Rather could finally get out of boot camp, he can serve, or maybe Kerry could go back and try to earn his medals.

Sorry SM. got off on a side journey.

The Hugo war. About 2012 to 2016 I would suppose. But then the Mayan calendar runs out 2012, whatever that means.

The United States government did not place U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Aruba for the benefit and comfort of the American tourist. Due to the close proximity both to Columbia and Venezuela, I am sure there were many objectives by our government for this placement which I will never be privy to. Likewise, in my humble opinion, I have to believe this plays into why our government has never taken a stand and avoided any involvement in the vanishment of Natalee Holloway.

I agree with #1. But there’s one thing for sure: if Aruba comes into danger from Venezuela or any other country, I will do everything I can to prevent my government from running to their aid.

Aruba has made it abundantly clear what they think of Americans and how much an American life is worth to them. I’ll be damned if I want our soldiers lives in danger for the likes of that “one little miserable island”.

No doubt he has thought about it, and most likely it wasn’t his idea…it was Oduber who thought of it first.

Just like Chávez, Oduber wants to become a longevous head of state.

Just like Chávez, Oduber intervenes exchange agreements with Cuba.

Just like Chávez, Oduber loves to threaten…Chávez threatens the USA, Oduber threatens The Netherlands and states that if he doesn’t get the desired economic aid, he has Venezuela to resort to.

Who knows…Oduber may be a surreptitious boycotter of American investment, which in Aruba’s case may mean forcing a diminishing tourism affluence through anti-capitalistic economic and fiscal policies…increase taxes, discourage investment, increase public spending, encourage a public sector parasitical workforce, overly dependent on factional affiliation, a strategy conceived to perpetuate MEP in Power.

    6. dennisintn on February 23rd, 2007 6:20 pm

seems to me that oduber would just be swapping bosses. nobody in their right mind could think that chavez would take over and then just let oduber or anyone else have their say over the way things are done. better the devil you know than the devil you don’t.

Having lived and worked in Venezuela, I can assure you Chaves is after a drug market expansion. He cares not for oil outlets in Aruba. The media is out of touch. Except for maricabo and Caracas, the poulation is 80% poor and live in shamble cardboard box housing.

    9. Patti on February 23rd, 2007 9:35 pm

I keep hearing the words of Crioyo in my ears:

He predicted that his island would end up being taken over by Communists. He can certainly correct me on this, if I’m not remembering correctly, but I think he said that Oduber was a communist. We were discussing the elections.

It sure wouldn’t surprise me if this merger is something that has been tossed about in the minds of Oduber and Chavez for quite some time. Oduber is the dictator-type, as is Chavez. The two of them could go far, scratching eachother’s backs; and, I believe, there has been alot of that going on already.

Remember me saying that I think they have guns buried in Aruba? I think that’s what the island of Aruba is purchasing with their drug-trade money. Remember his threat concerning the militants? I’m willing to bet that he wasn’t joking about that. And, ofcourse, I agree that Chavez is looking to expand his drug market; but remember, he uses oil shipments as its’ cover.

Chavez is a tyrant… and Oduber isn’t far behind.

      Boycott Arua!

    10. Patti on February 23rd, 2007 9:42 pm

      Scarey Thought:

What do you think Oduber would do if the Dutch tried to
have him arrested for obstruction of justice in the
disappearance of Natalee Ann Holloway? Not that her
disappearance has anything to do with Oduber’s foreign
policies, but… do you think he’d go peacefully?

    11. Richard on February 23rd, 2007 11:05 pm

I’m not sure if the Dutch would have the power to arrest Oduber, even assuming there were evidence to do so.

I imagine that it would have to be a domestic arrest on the basis of a warrant from an Aruban court. Needless to say, I have no idea whether this is possible.

I agree that Washington is so alarmed by Chavez that we’re probably scrambling for “friends” in the Caribbean. By that, our government means governments that will speak up for us and against Chavez, etc., in the United Nations and similar places.

The Dutch government traditionally has, if not the controlling voice, at least a strong say-so in Aruba’s defense and foreign policy. So that’s a factor too.

Now, here’s a scenario that I don’t believe in. It is too far-fetched to make sense. Having said that … we know that North Korea sent commando teams to Japan in the 1970s to kidnap Japanese nationals from beaches and remote areas.

This much is a fact. North Korea has admitted it, and has allowed some of the abductees to visit Japan.

Just suppose that Venezuela wanted to try to destabilize Aruba and its economy, largely dependent on U.S. tourism.

However, I don’t for one moment believe that this is a plausible explanation. Just putting it here “for the record.”

#4 you probably don’t understand american foreign policy if you think they wouldn’t go into a country because some residents won’t appreciate them. It wouldn’t be about saving Arubans or helping the dutch. It’d be to protect American interest and safeguarding homeland security. Aruba and the Antilles have American bases, the closest they can get to Venezuela to keep an eye on things. If Chavez invades, it’s also a direct attack on America and American interests abroad so logically and historically America goes to war. And if America doesn’t, it’d probably be because Venezuela stopped providing oil. Another American interest? And the US goverment will certainly not pay attention to protesters until it’s too late- Historically speaking.

#16, of course there is no plan to invade venezuela. it’s just part and parcel of chavez’ paranoia and rhetoric to explain his policies of getting everything in the country under his control. read the history of germany and russia during the 20′s and 30′s in case you’ve forgotten. stalin and hitler had to shake the bogeyman in front of their people to scare them into following their plans.

The Dutch should have sold that place earlier, then they would have at least gotten some money for it. Well if Chavez captures it, they at least still get rid of it.

    24. Aruban Student on February 25th, 2007 3:06 am

I was born and raised in Aruba and currently living in the Netherlands. First of all Natalee Holloway has nothing to do with this subject, but since you want to bring her in, I’ll discuss it. I am not saying that it was right that she was kidnapped or whatever, but what BRIGHT person goes into a car with strangers in a foreign country????? I wouldn’t even do it and in my own country, much less a foreign one. Secondly, let’s focus on the hundreds of people that go missing in America each and every day.
      For example:
      - Ruben David Felix (missing since February 1997)
      - Hope Danielle Meek (missing since February 2002)
      - William “Billy” Smolinski (missing since August 2004)
      - Enrique Garcia (missing since 1993)
      - Stacy Lynn Holmes (missing since January 2004)

Why should people, Americans in general, boycott Aruba??? Because Natalee is still missing??? Well then I guess it’s safe to say that everyone should have started boycotting America a very long time ago, because the people mentioned above are still missing.
So please let’s put aside all the narrow minded subjective biased critiques and let’s focus on what’s best for the Aruban community and its neighbouring islands.

      Aruban Student,

You clearly have not followed the Natalee Holloway case from the beginning.

The case is not about Natalee Holloway. It is about corruption in Aruba. Natalee, unfortunately was the one who exposed this high level corruption.

The Aruban community was given a day off to help find Natalee, police were working around the clock, and yet the ungrateful comments. If they didn’t do anything I would understan why the rage, but you guys wee not on the island. I also know this, that if you had been in Aruba, you would of seen Mrs. Twitty happily drinking and laughing in the casino, while her daughter is still missing. This is so strange, because if my daughter were missing I would do everything in my power to get her back and be very sad. She was obviously none of the two. Aruban Student,

What does a country of 300 million have to do with an island of around 100,000 in comparison? Do you know any missing Arubans in the USA? Did the president go out and say he was sick of the case of a missing 18 year old here? Did our country trash the parents of an Aruban citizen who has met foul play here? How do you know why Natalee went with Joran, Deepak and Satish? Her friends said he lied to them that he was a 19 year old soccer player from Holland. Why was Joran in a casino drinking and gambling underage that night? Why hasn’t his father been charged with contributing to the deliquency of his underage son that night? Why was he allowed in Carlos n Charlie’s to drink underage that night? Natalee and her friends weren’t pursuing him and his friends. It was vice versa. He was going to where they were. How could anyone believe anything Joran says? He’s an admitted liar repeatedly over and over. Why would I believe she wasn’t drugged? The police told Natalee’s father to go to Carlos n Charlies and have a beer, but watch his drink or they may drug it. Why would they drug a middle age man’s drink and not a beautiful 18 year old girls? Natalee’s friends have said, Why would 3 guys go out and closing time to hit on a girl? What parent would ask what kind of girl would get in a car with my son? You have NOOOOOO clue what Natalee’s parents have been through the last year and half in search of their daughter. Stop spreading the rumors that Natalee’s mom was out partying and living it up while in Aruba looking for her daughter. That woman has tried to move heaven and hell to get help looking for her child. Walk a mile in the shoes of a parent looking for their missing child. Stop blaming the victim because she is voiceless. Blame the ones who went out that night breaking laws and lying, anything they could do to to deceive a beautiful and trusting 18 year old girl on her last night in Aruba. It’s convenient to say Natalee is a missing girl, Natalee was the victim of a horrendous crime. People don’t just go missing on an island that small without a passport, money, clothes, transportation, no phone, no nothing on them. Ask Paulus what he meant when the day after Natalee disappeared he said no body, no case to all 3.

This case has never been about the number of missing people anywhere. It’s been about how a tourist who was a victim of a crime on your island has been trashed along with her family simply because she was left voiceless. Just as in your comments, it still continues. How big of people.

    56. Patti on February 26th, 2007 2:07 am

      Roy:

I don’t think he’s anywhere on my list. But, corruption
usually starts at the top and works its’ way down,
especially in the case of small islands that are ruled by
      a chosen few.

Wasn’t it Oduber that said that he was sick of the Natalee
Holloway case? He’s the equivalant of our president. For
someone that rules an island whose economy is dependent on
tourism, that’s an odd thing to say. What would make him
say that? Doesn’t he care about people? What do you think
is more important to him… justice for crime victims or
the reputation of a chosen few?

Isn’t it reasonable that if he looked the other way, just as
many of the other officials did when it came to the
disappearance of Natalee Ann Holloway; that he looks the
other way in the other things that are happening on the
      island of Aruba?

It’s an island of only 100,000 people; and, yet, Aruba
manufactures and smuggles a large portion of the world’s
supply of the drug “Ecstacy” to the U.S. and Europe.

Chavez is an enemy of the U.S., so to speak because he
is instrumental in “drug lord” activity in Venezuela. Many
of the islands won’t purchase his oil, as they know that it
is through these oil shipments that his country smuggles
drugs onto other islands… some of which end up being used
by their citizens, making their crime rates go up as more
and more of their people become addicted, unable to support
      their habits.

Do you think it’s possible that Oduber is like Chavez, a
reknown dictator that has his hands in criminal activity?

      I do.

      Aruba sucks!

Going out and searching for Natalee for one day, that was great.

Now if they would just prosecute the murdering/raping Van der Sloots and Kalpoe trash for Natalee’s murder, that’d be great!!!

I know there are some decent people in Aruba working to wash clean the Aruban name… and Aruban Student is not among them. Aruban Student, I’m so glad you are working on an education.

Please, come back and let us know when you get it!

Comparing Aruba to America has absolutely nothing to do with why your corrupt Aruban Law Enforcement still chooses not to prosecute the murdering/raping Van der Sloot and Kalpoe
criminals. They have uncovered enough info to put these disease riddled humans away for a long time, five times over already, at least. Aruba is as appealling as a filled diaper.

      Find Natalee. -J4N

#57 (Carpe) The diaper comment, Priceless!!! LOL!

    60. Patti on February 26th, 2007 4:59 am

      Correction:

It’s an island of only 100,000 people; and, yet, Aruba is a
major transit point as it smuggles a portion of the world
supply of the drug “Ecstasy” to the U.S. FROM Europe.

It is estimated that 80% of the world supply of “Ecstasy”
      is manufactured in The Netherlands.

Here’s the Link from the Department of Justice:

      http://www.usdoj.gov/ndic/pubs/11/12620/mdma.htm

Aruba is also a transit point for cocaine going from
Columbia through Venezuela to both the U.S. and Europe.
In October, 2005, over 2 tons of cocaine was found off
      the coast of Aruba.

Using the same link – look under “Cocaine”

    61. Patti on February 26th, 2007 5:18 am

      Here’s another point to consider:

Europe’s supply of cocaine still comes primarily from
Columbia via Central America and the Carribean. The
Netherlands plays an important role in the distribution
of cocaine to EU. It is estimated that Columbia supplies
the majority followed by Bolivia (28%) and Peru (16%).

      Here’s the Link:

      http://ar2006.emcdda.europa.eu/en/page009-en.html

I’m not going to post it, but you can find the traffic
routes and most all of them go from Columbia to Venezuella
      and then through the Carribean.

Thanks, Mayan Moons (#51) … Remember the quote of Dante:
“I laugh in order that I may not weep.” Sometimes laughter is indeed a good and a cleansing response: just ask Jonathan Swift.

I hope everyone is noticing how Aruba’s latest paid troll is continuing to try to turn our attention to irrelevancies:

Is the question what happened to Natalee? Nope. It’s: Why did she get in the car?

It’s been postulated, and is very likely, that she was given a date rape drug, and hence her judgment was impaired.
It’s also been postulated that she drank too much, and hence her judgment was impaired. We don’t know for certain about the first point, likely as it is, and some dispute the second point; she was walking steadily enough.

But you know what? THIS IS NOT THE ISSUE!

What IS the issue? WHAT HAPPENED TO NATALEE HOLLOWAY?

      That is the ONLY issue.

    63. Dutch guy on February 26th, 2007 8:22 am

Aruban Student, don’t let these hateful people / bloggers make you feel bad…I definitely don’t think that these people have much influence in this tragic missing person case… It’s obvious that this website has become the “hate Aruba” website…Let them continue expressing their frustrations and anger…I sincerely hope that the hate they have for Aruba and all it’s inhabitants doesn’t consume their own peace of mind…

Let them try getting attention from Aruba(ns) with these ridiculous postings…That’s their primary goal…

Aruba will continue to prosper and things are going well for Aruba…Arubans definitely won’t let these negative hateful people ruin their peace of mind…

    64. Aruban Student on February 26th, 2007 10:59 am

Thank you very much Dutch guy. I have given up a long time on posting comments, because they are only looking at the situation from one side. Once again thank you.

    65. jen3560 on February 26th, 2007 12:53 pm

We can’t forget that Oduber had previously let slip about his friendship with Chavez, and his threats to both Holland and the US to utilize that alliance:

      June 16, 2006

      http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e82/klaasend2/amdigital061506a.jpg

    66. Dutch Guy on February 26th, 2007 1:14 pm

That statement could be interpreted in many ways. What I have heard is that Oduber doesn’t agree with the interpretation some media in Aruba gave to that statement. Oduber said later that he meant that by Holland putting pressure on Aruba and the Antilles to give up part of their autonomy, Chavez could use this issue to destabilize the region more, and that the US wouldn’t want that. I definitely don’t think that Oduber is friends with Chavez. Aruba is one of the few islands left in the Caribbean which doesn’t have the oil supply agreement with Venezuela…(like Santo Domingo, Cuba, Antigua, Jamaica etc etc) And Oduber said also that Aruba should never be dependent of oil supply from Venezuela…

    67. vicki on February 26th, 2007 1:27 pm

odeber sleeps with dogs, ditchboy, so who can believe him anyway. i hope he does go in with chavez. He will soon see what being a “DAWG” is….

    68. Richard on February 26th, 2007 1:32 pm

With all the comments about how Aruba will continue to prosper, wasn’t it interesting to see how their officials whined and cringed once the boycott movement got in full swing? Tourism is down there, and not all the illicit drug trade that permeates the corrupt island will offset this.

Aruba will solve the Natalee Holloway case if it wants American tourism … even though I think fewer and fewer Americans are willing to consider a trip there.

Mr. Dutch guy and friends, why don’t you do something constructive … such as, you ask? Such as tell your government that an American citizen named Joel Gove is missing on Saba island, which is part of the Netherlands Antilles.

His family believe they have located him, but your government won’t send out a search party to find his remains and return them to the U.S.

So his American family is trying to raise $75,000 to finance a PRIVATE expedition to do this. Guess your government is our friend as long as it’s on the receiving side, right? Why don’t you do your job?

The Netherlands Antilles is a cesspool. I hope its refuse overflows your dikes, however good the Dutch dikes may be.

    69. mayan_moons on February 26th, 2007 2:11 pm

      Hey Arubastudent & dutchboy

human suffering that goes on because of their inability
to admit the truth. They allow, even, their own people
to suffer the effects of drug addiction at the hand of the
wicked ones. They have grown complacent ~ with no hope
      of a better place.

      and they think WE’RE silly….

      Boycott Aruba!

    74. Maggie on February 26th, 2007 4:48 pm

I will gladly be labeled a hateful person if the definition of that is wanting the long overdue justice for Natalee Holloway. Natalee is not a tragic missing person case. Natalee was the victim of crimes committed against her on that Sunday night. In police statements here on SM , Joran’s friend Jaimie said Joran called him on that night between 4 and 7 to ask him to go out to Carlos n Charlies to meet some American girls. However according to Joran, he didn’t even meet the girls till later in the evening and didn’t decide to go until around 9 or 10 pm. Clearly he was stalking the MB girls and hanging out where they were and it sure wasn’t so he could take one out and forget his condom and leave her at the beach. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck its not the goose that laid the golden egg. JVDS is a sociopathical liar according to the FBI. The perfect nightmare of a date for any female.

Deepak and Satish took a shower and cleaned their car so they could go out get a drink and drive Joran and his date around town and leave them at the beach and clean their car again around daylight. Yeah ok…Joran is the king and so special they would do that. Satish and Deepak’s big adventure coming to a theater near you soon. None of them still agree on anything that happens that night and none agree how Joran got home. Not one witness on the beach of all those people Joran said he saw has come forward to see any of them there that night. The fisherman there said noone matching their description was there that night by the huts. Perhaps you can tell us what chit they will see if they find Natalee that these 3 were so worried about. If this were in the USA.. these 3 would’ve been brought in right off and separated and one of them would’ve cracked.

Probably the same person talking to themselves.

      SO LAME!!

I personally love the beautiful little island of Aruba and its just foolish how people are treating this!

Some wannabe thug punks ended the life of a beautiful girl and incompetent authorities helped botch justice, and the entire island of Aruba and the people on it are to now suffer?? PLEASE!

My wife and I love the place and will CONTINUE to go! And for anyone who thinks the Island is hurting, you can stop now, the place is thriving with tourism and Americans wanting to go vacation in a beautiful place with nice people, In my opinion the nicest people in all of the Carribean!

    81. Bas on August 20th, 2007 2:40 pm

I find some people on this site quite hypocrite. People from the U.S, don’t blame an entire island for the case Natalee Holloway.
      Maggie reply 41

“What does a country of 300 million have to do with an island of around 100,000 in comparison?”

a comparison is valid because a country with 300 million people is divided in communities, small towns, big cities enz.. and people also disappear. Do you also boycot a small town in the U.S. if someone disappears overthere?

“Do you know any missing Arubans in the USA”
      does that matters?,
In the States many people are missing, nationality doesn’t matters!

I can go on like this but I think it will not help. Keep you’re mind clear I’ll would say and do not judge people too soon.
