The Face Of A True Hero – Wesley Autrey – Subway Rescuer
We see so many horror stories out there as we go about our daily lives, it is nice to see a story about a true hero. A man who sees a crisis and reacts in a way that all of us wish we could but so few of us ever do.
God Bless Wesley Autrey.
Wesley Autrey, a 50-year-old construction worker and Navy veteran, faced both those questions in a flashing instant yesterday, and got his answers almost as quickly.
Mr. Autrey was waiting for the downtown local at 137th Street and Broadway in Manhattan around 12:45 p.m. He was taking his two daughters, Syshe, 4, and Shuqui, 6, home before work.
Nearby, a man collapsed, his body convulsing. Mr. Autrey and two women rushed to help, he said. The man, Cameron Hollopeter, 20, managed to get up, but then stumbled to the platform edge and fell to the tracks, between the two rails.
The headlights of the No. 1 train appeared. “I had to make a split decision,” Mr. Autrey said.
So he made one, and leapt.
Mr. Autrey lay on Mr. Hollopeter, his heart pounding, pressing him down in a space roughly a foot deep. The train’s brakes screeched, but it could not stop in time.
Five cars rolled overhead before the train stopped, the cars passing inches from his head, smudging his blue knit cap with grease. Mr. Autrey heard onlookers’ screams. “We’re O.K. down here,” he yelled, “but I’ve got two daughters up there. Let them know their father’s O.K.” He heard cries of wonder, and applause. via New York Times.

AWESOME!
Thank God there are still men out there; you know, the big, strong, self-sacraficing type that put other peoples needs ahead of their own.
Salute to Mr. Autrey… you make this world a better place for all of us. God Bless You.
what’s the civilian equivalent of the cmh? definitely a candidate for whatever it is for this gentleman. it’s really nice to hear about great men and women like this man. sure beats the hell out of sloots and kalpoes.

Mr. Autrey, the epitome of a good samaritan.
You are a true HERO
No greater Love. He is an Angel
I heard Donald Trump gave him a check for 10,000.00 and Disney is inviting he and his two little girls for a week. Bless those girls hearts….seeing their daddy save that man’s life is something we know they will never forget. He made a split second decision & acted on it and in so doing has made this world a better place.
Trump wrote him a check for 10 grand. Letterman is having him on the show. All these ba-zillinaires should sit up and take notice and give some money in this guys name to charities who help people. Maybe even offer to put his daughters through college when the time comes. Pay it forward kind of mentality.
Brave act this man, and we call people who run 100 yards or hit a baseball hero’s?
Nicely done Mr. Autrey.
A true American story One more reason why I want to be an American, I get to rub shoulders with truely selfless people…True Heroes.
Wow, I am so impressed by Wesley Autrey’s act of self sacrifice.
So nice to read something good for a change!
What a fine examle he set for his daughters.
May God bless you in all you do Mr. Autrey!
Thank you for putting this story on the FP.
May God blessing be upon you throughout your life. You are an angel sent here for the specific reason. If I had it to give, I would give you more than $10,000 dollars. Life is worth so much and you gave him and his family so much. Although, the money is not the important thing here. You desire the best to come. Way to Go!!!
