Even the MSM refers to bloggers as a legitimate source of news now. The networks remind us that we can access news on their websites 24 hours a day. If you miss the news on TV or didn’t see a newspaper, you can go online, read all about it, comment on it and discuss it with others from all over the country, even all over the world. You no longer have to write a letter, buy a stamp and stop at the Post Office to tell the President of Chile or Mexico or your government representatives what you think about a subject; you can do it by e-mail. Amber alerts go out to hundreds of thousands of people within seconds. The Internet brings people of different cultures and backgrounds together to share information, thoughts, and opinions. We’re no longer dependent on sound bites or the media in general for information and we’re not dependent on politicians or spokespeople to tell us the opinions of people in Australia or the Netherlands or England on various topics because we can read about it online. Hopefully that will help give us a better understanding and acceptance of people from other cultures and with different beliefs. Scared Monkeys is a good example of a place to go for responsible reporting of the news and intelligent and insightful discussion. The blogs continue to impact out lives and our world. When the bloggers do it responsibly, they help change it for the better.
