What A Shock, Aruba has NO legislation on the control of corruption … Who would have known?

Who knew? Who could have seen this coming? What a shock! Who could have possibly ever believed there could be corruption or cover ups in Aruba, while no mechanism to check it? What was learned by Aruban officials when they attended a Conference on Corruption … that Aruba has no legislation on the control of corruption. Corruption, bribes, kick-backs and political favors go unchecked as there is literally no means in place as a checks and balance against such actions. Even Nigeria has codes of conduct for their political members against corruption. There’s a statement and something to be proud of.

ArubaCorruptAward

“Aruba is one of the last countries in the world that does not have compulsory education yet and no legislation on the control of corruption.  Even a country like Nigeria has a code of conduct for the Parliament members and Tanzania has laws against corruption.  The lack of these kinds of matters caused astonishment.”

He has lots of examples of ministers that after their period in office were much richer than they could have been with just their salaries.

When you have Nigeria ahead of you in dealing with corruption, Houston … “you have a problem”. Is it any wonder why we have witnessed the complete nonsense in dealing with the Natalee Holloway investigation. Corruption is not an isolated event in Aruba, because of the the fact that there are no laws it is part of the ever day business and culture. Are we beginning to see how a complete cover up is possible when one knows the right people?

So Aruba, you win the award … Most Likely to be Corruptible … even more than Nigeria.

USA Today Gallup Poll on “Gas Price Manipulation” Shows 42% Have not a Clue and Would Complain about anything

There comes a point and time where people really need to take off their tin foil hats and get aGaspriceslower clue. Buy a vowel, pass the question or just use some common sense. Obviously gas prices have gone down considerably in the last month. One would think that this would be a good thing and people would rejoice that it does not cost $50 +  to fill the gas tank. People would be happy that they have extra money in their pocket. Of course many do was the “Consumer Confidence Index” exceeded expectations. However, there is that 42% who believe that GWB’s administration “deliberately manipulated the price of gasoline so that it would decrease before this falls elections.” I guess these people would rather win their election and pay $3.50 a gallon?

7-11 Says adios to Citgo and Hugo Chavez … Revenge of the Slurpee

In the wake of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez’s derogatory comments toward President7-11 George W. Bush, 7–11 tells Citgo to hit the road. Citgo Petroleum Corp is a Houston-based subsidiary of Venezuela’s state-run oil company. Obviously 7–11 feared the negativity and a backlash due to the irresponsible and childish comments of Chavez. So Hugo, before you are kicked to the curb, how about one last slurpee for the road?

DALLAS – 7-Eleven Inc. dropped Venezuela-owned Citgo as its gasoline supplier after more than 20 years as part of a previously announced plan by the convenience store operator to launch its own brand of fuel.  ”Regardless of politics, we sympathize with many Americans’ concern over derogatory comments about our country and its leadership recently made by Venezuela’s president,” said 7-Eleven spokeswoman Margaret Chabris.7-11slurpee “Certainly Chavez’s position and statements over the past year or so didn’t tempt us to stay with Citgo,” she added.

Instead, 7-Eleven, which sells gasoline at 2,100 of its 5,300 U.S. stores, will now purchase fuel from several distributors, including Tower Energy Group of Torrance, Calif., Sinclair Oil of Salt Lake City, and Houston-based Frontier Oil Corp. (AP via Yahoo News)

Looks like Debbie Schlussel is giving 7–11, a 21 Slurpee salute … Slurp It: 7-Eleven Dumps Chavez’s CITGO. We certainly agree.

More on the mounting Citgo boycott from The Dread Pundit Bluto … “Citgo Boycott Gaining Strength” and from Rusty at My Pet Jawa “Nonetheless, not buying gas with the Citgo brand on it is seen as an important symbolic gesture by many Americans.”

Although 7–11 denies that the move is tied to Chavez’s comments, the timing of the action certainly gives the appearance.

Aruban Education System, WOW …You think this may be an Issue?

From Amigoe, September 27, 2006 … this is an eye opener. This is almost criminal. How Educationdo these kids ever get a chance? If our children are our future, what does this say?

50 Percent of six-graders too old

ARUBA – 50 Percent of all the six-graders is too old, says MPA- leader Monica Kock.  She bases this on the figures of the Education department.  Chances are that these students become drop outs or will start working, because due to their age, they can no longer be admitted on secondary schools.
