A Fond Farewell to the F-14 TOMCAT … Made famous to all in the Movie “TOP GUN”
The Navy bids goodbye to the F-14 TomCat, one of the most recognizable and popular planes ever in the Cold War arsenal. Many will remember the TomCat from the movie “Top Gun”. To the F-14 we bid you a fond farewell and thank you for your service.
Furiously fast, deafeningly loud and lethal to enemy aircraft, the Tomcat had attained legendary status by the 1980s. The 1986 film Top Gun, in which Tom Cruise portrayed an F-14 pilot in training, cemented the supersonic warplane’s reputation in the popular culture. (USA Today)
Farewell.

How ironic that in 1986 Tom Cruise was made famous by flying a TomCat in a movie. 20yrs later, he hooks up with Katie Holmes and assumes the nickname “TomKat”.
A line I still use today: “That’s a negative Ghostrider, the pattern is full.”
Amazing, I did not realize that F-14 dates from 1970.
Thats nothing Houston….The B-52 dates back to the 50′s and their still going strong.
Yes, B52s are amazing….they will fly forever, if the airframe can stand it….and if we can afford to put fuel in it…..many training flights have been cancelled because of the fuel cost$$$$$$$
If Tom breaks up with Katie and gets together with Angelina, we could have a new dominant power couple!
