KINGSTOWN – Four men accused of raping two Florida teenagers and beating their mother while the group left a popular tourist attraction in St. Vincent have been charged with assault, police said.
The men were charged Saturday with two counts of rape, one count of causing grievous bodily harm and one count of causing injury in the attack that happened at the base of the La Soufriere volcano, Assistant Police Superintendent Eckron Lockhart said.
The attack occurred Wednesday when the mother and her two daughters — ages 15 and 17 — got tired on the hike and decided to turn back while a tour guide led the father and the couple’s other two daughters to the volcano’s summit, police said.
No hometown was provided for the family.
The four men will appear in court on Tuesday to hear the charges. If convicted, they face up to life in prison.
About 118,000 people live in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, an island chain in the southeast Caribbean Sea.
