Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar Runs Over 6 Students At UNC Over Treatment of Muslims in America
Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar, a recent graduate of University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, ran over 6 people who were congregating at the Pit, a main student gathering point on the UNC Campus.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the State Bureau of Investigation and other local emergency agencies, including a bomb squad, are on the scene of the mostly student complex at the intersection of Smith Level and BPW Club roads.
According to the Associated Press, the FBI joined the case because Taheri-azar, a native of Iran, “allegedly made statements that he acted to avenge the American treatment of Muslims. The ongoing investigation will work to confirm this,” said Special Agent Richard Kolko, an FBI spokesman in Washington. via The News and Observer
This has created a stir in the blogosphere as many wonder if this is an isolated instance or a potential part of a terroristic plot. The Locker Room wonders if this is in response to the Mohammed Cartoons that have inflamed Muslims around the world. The Simi Valley Sophist is reminded of a postal worker going postal. Lorie Byrd at PoliPundit wonders why retribution should be directed at one of the most liberal universities in the South.
Michelle Malkin points out that press reports call the victims pedestrians, but that they were far off the road in a congregation place. And finally, Vinnie over at The Jawa Report takes a tongue and cheek look at maybe the culprit was not the Iranian student, but the SUV.
