Aruban Business Life hardly notice a boycott. So then why do they care?
Amigoe: Business life hardly notice a boycott
12/13/2005
OK, so if business life hardly notices the boycott, why do they seem to care so much? Why was Steve Cohen named the new spokes person? Why does Aruba have a contingent coming to Washington, DC this Friday? Why does it appear that prosecutor Karen Janssen and Gerold Dompig are being replaced in the Natalee Holloway investigation?
We have just one question to the wording of this article:
A small, non-scientific founded investigation among people in several business sectors organized by the Chamber of Commerce gave the impression that the economic consequences of the Holloway-affair are hardly noticeable for the business life outside the tourist sector.
“Outside the tourist sector”? Aruba’s economy is based on approximately 70-75% tourism. I thought the purpose of the boycott was to affect tourism only?
Edwin Roos: “He continued saying that a boycott of Twitty does not contribute to anything”.
Really? Wouldn’t the truth just be a better approach? Aruba would not being doing the all out media, consultant blitz if this were the case.
ARUBA — A small, non-scientific founded investigation among people in several business sectors organized by the Chamber of Commerce gave the impression that the economic consequences of the Holloway-affair are hardly noticeable for the business life outside the tourist sector.
The hotels do experience cancellations, but they do not want to attribute this to the aftermath of the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. The hurricane season has also caused cancellations. There are some concerns though on the question whether the cancellation will be compensated with new reservations. The business life was optimistic about turnover increase in 2006. Edwin Roos, chairman of the Chamber of Commerce is of the opinion that the Strategic Communication Action Task Force that is in charge of the external communications on the Holloway-affair, have to give more information. “They have already done something in that direction by appointing a spokesperson for the international media. We also have the website http://www.arubatruth.com, but we need a spokesperson for Aruba self; that would be nice”, said Roos. He continued saying that a boycott of Twitty does not contribute to anything.
