Beth Holloway Twitty Response, A Mother’s Grief, Part I

From The AP

The missing teen’s mother, Beth Holloway Twitty, renewed her criticism of the investigation and vowed to keep fighting for justice.

“If the investigation had been handled properly during the first 10 days, the world would not have witnessed and experienced the pain and suffering my family and I have endured,” Holloway Twitty said, choking back tears as she read from a written statement. “For the rest of my life, I will continue to be the voice for my daughter, seeking justice in Aruba. Every parent would want the same justice for their child.”

The Holloway family has insisted that all three young men know what happened to the Alabama honors student, who vanished May 30 on the last day of a vacation to celebrate her high school graduation.

From Aruba Truth, Beth Holliway Twitty’s full response:

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 3RD, 2005

Four and a half hours after Joran can der Sloot’s parents and defense attorney notified the international press on Thursday that Joran would be released Saturday, I received word that this was, in fact, true. I then learned that the Kalpoe brothers would also be released. So the suspects who took my daughter from Carlos and Charlie’s on the last night of her senior trip, who were the last to be seen with her alive, who offered at least a dozen different versions of what they did with her, and who admitted to committing or witnessing sexual assaults against her while she was unable to defend herself, are now free. Under the judge’s ruling, the Kalpoes must remain on the island, while Joran van der Sloot is permitted to travel to other countries. If the investigation had been handled properly during the first ten days, the world would not have witnessed and experienced the pain and suffering my family and I have endured – - and perhaps I would have the answers I have so desperately sought…for more than three months. I certainly hope that the fight for justice for Natalee Holloway has not ended in Aruba, because it’s just beginning from our home front in the United States.

Joran Press Conference – Joran off to Holland?

Joranpressconference

Exclusive to Scared Monkeys from Aruba Today.

ABC NEWS

At his home later, Van der Sloot came out smiling, flung an arm around his father’s neck and squeezed his mother’s shoulder. He did not address reporters.

“We would like to express our happiness to have Joran back in our lives,” said his mother, Anita. “His life has been turned upside down.”

She said her family had been the victim of “slander based on rumor and gossip. It is easy to destroy the lives of people, especially through the press.”

From Fox News

ORANSINT NICOLAAS, Aruba  — A Dutch youth and two Surinamese brothers suspected in the disappearance of an Alabama teenager were released from jail Saturday after a judge ruled they could go free but must remain available to police.

Joran van der Sloot (search), 18, and the brothers, Satish Kalpoe (search), 18 and Deepak Kalpoe (search), 21, were released from the prison on the eastern side of the island on condition that they remain in Dutch territory and be available to police for questioning, defense attorney Richie Kock said.

Kock said the teenager would soon be going to university in the Netherlands.

“Joran will be trusted to be on his own in Holland and to do as he pleases,” Kock said. “We do not have a parole system.”

A defense attorney had earlier said the release was conditional on the three staying on Aruba, a protectorate of the Netherlands, but Kock said they were only limited to Dutch territory. Court officials have provided no details.

Attorneys previously have said the release was conditional on the three staying on Aruba, a protectorate of the Netherlands, but Kock said they were only limited to Dutch territory. Court officials have provided no details.

Hurricane Background Information and Opinion

If you are interested in the practical facts of what happened in New Orleans, here is a copy of the New Orleans Evacuation Plan.

Hat tip Instapundit

Also, as this tragedy is politicized, GOP bloggers explain the impact of President George W. Bush’s calling and appealing for evacuations for the low lying areas to the State officials of Louisiana.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — In the face of a catastrophic Hurricane Katrina, a mandatory evacuation was ordered Sunday for New Orleans by Mayor Ray Nagin.

Acknowledging that large numbers of people, many of them stranded tourists, would be unable to leave, the city set up 10 places of last resort for people to go, including the Superdome.

The mayor called the order unprecedented and said anyone who could leave the city should. He exempted hotels from the evacuation order because airlines had already cancelled all flights.

Gov. Kathleen Blanco, standing beside the mayor at a news conference, said President Bush called and personally appealed for a mandatory evacuation for the low-lying city, which is prone to flooding.

I had a friend tell me who is close to the relief effort, that by George W. Bush’s unprecedented declaration of a disaster area before the storm hit, emergency personnel were able to fly in and be ready to enter the city shortly after the storm came through.

So please, folks, I know some of you do not like our President, but do not blame this on him. I heard his Saturday address when he pleaded for every one to evacuate. He had a tone in his voice I had not heard as he begged everyone to evacuate. But this is America. He could not drag people off the street and out of their homes.
