Hurricane Ophelia – Missed Land the First Time
Now coming back for more?
Lets hope not.
Update: CNN, Ophelia could loop back.
NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Florida (AP) — Tropical Storm Ophelia moved away from Florida’s northeast coast Friday, but that may not be the end of it for the peninsula, Georgia or the Carolinas.
Though Ophelia’s top sustained winds had dropped to 65 mph (105 kph), forecasters warned that it is expected to turn toward land as a hurricane next week. It is expected to return to hurricane strength — 74 mph (119 kph) sustained winds — by late Friday.
“By no means should people take this short-term motion as being let off the hook here,” National Hurricane Center meteorologist Jamie Rhome said. “I don’t want people to say, ‘Whew this one’s going out to sea.’ There’s still a possibility that it could loop back.”

The Fisherman’s Huts; What and Why Were they Looking There?
Over this past weekend as seen in Bon Dia investigators dug once again near the Fisherman’s Huts and the area near the Pond. Since this search was done at the request of Prosecutor Jansen one wonders and speculates as to the motive behind this search. Many have speculated as to whether this was a search done off a tip, just grasping at straws or just a show to give the appearance of an investigation? A search in an area that the fireman had pain staking done a month previous when they attempted to drain the ponds. Some items were found; however, what does not seem coincidental is this area in so many occasions comes up as a place of interest where witnesses have claimed to have seen the suspects the night of Natalee Holloway’s disappearance. See the translation below and several pictures exclusive to Scared Monkeys courtesy Best Buddy.
(Translation) At around 7.30 in the morning, firemen started to to drain the water in a pond north of the Marriott, next to the fishermen’s huts. This was done at the request of Jansen, who heads the team investigating the case of Natalee Holloway. The reason why they decided to conduct a rigorous search was because this is the last place that suspect Joran v.d. Sloot was with Natalee Holloway. After draining 80% of the water, they used a crane to look through the mud and found different items. There was a handbag in which there was a headband. Aside from this, the bag was full of rocks, which indicates that the person who threw it in the pond didn’t want it to be found. Aside from the handbag and the headband, they found 2 cloth bags, a machete, 2 items of drug paraphernalia and a shoe. All the articles were in the mud and had to be washed to determine if they had anything to do with the investigation. The work lasted until nightfall. All articles were confiscated and now they will be further looked into to see if they are related to the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. Yesterday during the day a few divers dove in the the vicinity of the fishermen huts again to look for clues.
Simply Disgusting, Politicizing People’s Tragedy
Then again what else was I to expect from MoveOn.org? What a shameless act, check out the US Newswire release.
Members of MoveOn.org Political Action are scheduled to hand- deliver thousands of petition signatures to the White House after the rally. The petition says, “President Bush should stop blaming the victims of Hurricane Katrina and get to work helping them.” WHO: Katrina Evacuees and MoveOn members WHAT: Protest outside the White House in support of Hurricane Victims WHEN: Thursday, September 8th at 1 p.m. WHERE: Pennsylvania Avenue NW. In front of the White House. (Metro: Red Line: Farragut North. Blue-Orange Line: Farragut West or McPherson Square) EDITOR’S NOTE: Excellent Visuals — Signs reading “Shame” and “Help Hurricane Victims”
EXCELLENT VISUALS!!! How absolutely shameful. I would agree with Lorie Byrd’s analysis regarding MoveOn.org. Also with Michelle Malkin bringing to the forefront the following disclaimer, (check out the advice to the MSM at the end of the release about “excellent visuals.) Michelle further goes on to point out the “FACTS” reported in the Washington Post, Money Flowed to Questionable Projects, most probably would not wind up at MoveOn’s Bushbashaplalooza. Far be it from the facts get in the way of a good Bushbash.
Much of that Louisiana money was spent to try to keep low-lying New Orleans dry. But hundreds of millions of dollars have gone to unrelated water projects demanded by the state’s congressional delegation and approved by the Corps, often after economic analysis that turned out to be inaccurate. Despite a series of independent investigations criticizing Army Corps construction projects as wasteful pork-barrel spending, Louisiana’s representatives have kept bringing home the bacon.

Update: Here is the actual Press Release from MoveOn.Org
Governor and Mayor at it again over the evacuation
Can this situation get any more bizarre? Or should I say inept? At odds over the evacuation of New Orleans? A city in complete disarray and there is a question still of whether to evacuate.
Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco seemed at odds with New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin Wednesday, hours after the mayor ordered the mandatory evacuation of the crippled Crescent City by force if necessary.
Its been how many days since Hurricane Katrina hit and the governor is still not calling for a mandatory evacuation. What is she waiting for the next hurricane to come into the gulf coast area? The continual lack of foresight and leadership demonstrated by Governor Blanco has been catastrophically incompetent. Certainly Mayor Nagin has been no pillar of leadership; however, he has some flashes of normalcy where he doesn’t seem to be completely over his head. On the other hand, Governor Blanco seems like she may need to be shown the door. And still the Governor cannot pull the trigger on issuing a mandatory evacuation.
Nagin late Tuesday authorized law enforcement officers to force the evacuation of the estimated 10,000 residents who refuse to heed orders to leave.
But in a Wednesday interview with FOX News, Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco (search) said she had not signed off on the decision.
“The mayor certainly has ordered that but the governor, and that would be me, would have to enforce it or implement it. We are trying to determine whether there is an absolute justification for that,” she told FOX News.
One wonders what else Governor Blanco could have prevented in this disaster? One does not have to look too far these days. Major Garrett of Fox News tells another tale of ineptitude or poor judgment as seen courtesy of the Politcal Teen.
Major Garrett explained that FEMA/Red Cross had a truckload of water and other necessities , however the Louisiana Department of Homeland Security DENIED it. Why? Because they didn’t want to attract more people to the Superdome or the convention center, they want to get them out. Garrett also brings to light that FEMA couldn’t initially bring the National Guard into Louisiana because it is not their jurisdiction. Who has to give them jurisdiction? *Drumroll please* GOVERNOR KATHLEEN BLANCO.
The Radioblogger has the full transcript of the Hugh Hewitt and Major Garrett interview.
MG: Well, the Red Cross, Hugh, had pre-positioned a literal vanguard of trucks with water, food, blankets and hygiene items. They’re not really big into medical response items, but those are the three biggies that we saw people at the New Orleans Superdome, and the convention center, needing most acutely. And all of us in America, I think, reasonably asked ourselves, geez. You know, I watch hurricanes all the time. And I see correspondents standing among rubble and refugees and evacuees. But I always either see that Red Cross or Salvation Army truck nearby. Why don’t I see that?
HH: And the answer is?
MG: The answer is the Louisiana Department of Homeland Security, that is the state agency responsible for that state’s homeland security, told the Red Cross explicitly, you cannot come.

What? Say WHAT?
There is a problem, here, with the Governor of Louisiana, who fiddles and fiddles before she cries, but refuses to let anyone else take the reins.
