RSSJet Blue Flight Lands Safely
A JetBlue airliner with its front landing gear stuck sideways landed safely Wednesday, balancing on its back wheels as it slowed on the runway at Los Angeles International Airport.
As the front wheels touched the runway, flames shot along the tarmac and the tires tore off, leaving the metal gear scraping the runway for the final few yards.
The pilots of Flight 292 had discovered the problem as they tried to retract the plane’s landing gear shortly after leaving Burbank’s Bob Hope Airport bound for New York, said JetBlue spokesman Bryan Baldwin.

and hospital and nursing home patients were evacuated Wednesday as Hurricane Rita turned into a Category-5, 165-mph monster that could slam Texas by the weekend and inflict more misery on New Orleans. Forecasters said Rita could be the most intense hurricane on record ever to hit Texas, and easily one of the most powerful ever to plow into the U.S. mainland. Category 5 is the highest on the scale, and only three Category 5 hurricanes are known to have hit the U.S. mainland _ most recently, Andrew, which smashed South Florida in 1992.
One can only hope that after what was witnessed during and after Hurricane Katrina that people will heed the warnings and evacuation orders to leave the areas in the path of Hurricane Rita.

Texas prepared for Hurricane Rita on Tuesday by ordering the state’s first mandatory evacuation, declaring the state a disaster area and moving supplies to inland cities in anticipation of evacuees. Using a law passed this year, Galveston County officials ordered a mandatory evacuation of its coastal communities beginning at 6 tonight. Elderly residents living in nursing homes and assisted living centers were to be evacuated by bus before dawn today.

MIAMI, Florida (CNN) — As more than 1 million people scurried to get out of the way of Hurricane Rita, the Category 5 hurricane grew more turbulent, becoming the third most intense storm in history, the National Hurricane Center said Wednesday night.
Officials said the barometric pressure near the eye of the storm was 898 millibars or less, a lower reading than Hurricane Katrina, which slammed into the Gulf Coast August 29.
Second Car Impounded in Taylor Behl Investigation
According to the Richmond Times Dispatch, a second vehicle has been impounded by police in the investigation of the disappearance of Taylor Behl.
Richmond Police today said they have impounded another car in connection with their investigation into the disappearance of Virginia Commonwealth University freshman Taylor Marie Behl.
The car, a tan Nissan Altima, was recovered by police approximately two days ago. It is being examined by forensic teams for any trace of the 17-year-old Vienna resident who disappeared on Sept. 5 after leaving her VCU dorm room.
The police did not state where the second impounded vehicle was recovered from or to whom it was registered to.
Police spokeswoman Kirsten Nelson said investigators are interested in the car because Behl is believed to have been in it sometime prior to her disappearance. She did not disclose where the car was recovered or to whom it is registered.
“Right now, it’s a very small piece of a very big puzzle,” said Nelson.

The United States Gulf (Texas) brace for what looks like yet another category 4 hurricane.

Forecasters said the storm that swiped Florida on Tuesday could strengthen to a Category 4 and hit Texas by the end of the week. But a slight turn to the right was possible and engineers feared additional rain could swamp the city’s levees.

Youth For Social Change step in to help search for Taylor Behl
According to 8 News, a local group in Richmond called Youth For Social Change has stepped in to help search for VCU freshman Taylor Behl.
The search for missing VCU freshman Taylor Behl is growing larger by the day.
8News has learned that a local group called Youth For Social Change is now stepping in to help. The group’s organizer, Darryl Holland tells 8News the group will be back out today searching alleyways and abandoned houses for any new signs of the missing 17-year-old. As for the police investigation, authorities now tell us the Ohio plates found on Behl’s car belonged to a former VCU student from Ohio. Detectives tell us they’ve talked to the unidentified student but would not go into any further detail.
Taylor Behl’s friends and family are also aiding in the investigation with a website that has Behl’s description, pictures, phone numbers and more.
