RICHMOND, Va. Richmond police say they’ve found the car of missing Virginia Commonwealth University student Taylor Behl about a mile and half from the dorm where she was last seen nearly two weeks ago.
Police Chief Rodney Monroe says an off-duty police officer found Behl’s car this morning. Its Virginia license plate had been replaced with plates from Ohio. Police put the car under surveillance, but went ahead and impounded it tonight after no one attempted to move it.
The F-B-I was called to do a forensic investigation of the car and a K-9 team was brought to the scene to try to get Behl’s scent.
Posters featuring the smiling Behl have been posted around campus since she disappeared September 5th.
People with information about Behl’s whereabouts are asked to call 8-7-7-2-4-4-H-E-L-P.
UPDATE: Richmond Times Dispatch; Probers hope vehicle provides clues that will help locate teen.
The discovery of Taylor’s vehicle will hopefully give the police some leads into her disappearance. The discovery of the car and tests investigators will do will hopefully turn up clues.
Police placed the car under surveillance and impounded it last night about 9:15 after they observed nobody attempting to use it for more than 12 hours.
The FBI was called to do a forensic investigation of the car. A K-9 team was brought to the scene to see if the dog could track Behl’s scent. Meanwhile, 20 detectives spent last night scouring the Fan neighborhood, interviewing residents for clues in the case.
“This is a tremendous break,” said Monroe, who is heading up the multi-agency task force searching for the missing 17-year-old. “Now we can try to determine how long the car has been there and whether or not anyone may have seen the car being parked.”
The chief said it did not appear that the car had been there since the day Behl disappeared.

why does her cell phone still ring through after 7 days? wouldn’t her battery have died by now?
Isn’t the FBI now involved in this case? I understand she was involved with several male individuals in the myspace.com on the internet. this is yet one more example of how young women cannot trust males they do not know, as with Natalee Holloway. The VCU campus is surrounded by the urban area of Richmond, which is in decline also. Urban universities have a far higher crime rate as it is – VCU seems to have been very uninvolved up front, in leading a search for this freshman student. I’d like to see the university and some of it’s alumni provide some reward incentives for this search, as well as resources for the family.
Just for the record, I have a newer cell phone and the battery is amazing. I only have to charge my phone once every 10 days or so if I seldom use it (maybe even longer than that)
