EU Rejected by Dutch?
This is outstanding news, the Dutch people are expected to reject the EU Constitution, giving up their soveignty to elite bureaucrats. That, coupled with a French election that is to close to call, could result in failure of the EU as a political entity.
The Dutch public appears on course to firmly reject the European constitution in a referendum on 1 June, according to latest opinion polls.
A poll for RTL television indicated 54% would vote No, with 27% voting Yes.
The Dutch vote is purely consultative, but politicians have said they will take the result into consideration when it comes to a parliamentary vote.
The referendum comes only three days after one in France, where the No campaign has a slight lead.
A poll by Centerdata, also published on Thursday, showed 50.9% against the constitution and 28.6% for it.
I can not imagine that the European countries are so willing to give up their national identities, or that if the Constitution was ratified, that it would last for very long. The elites of Europe have always been multinational, traveling across borders much more frequently. The common people, however, have had a very specific sense of nationality, and this is probably what we see in the votes that will occur in the next couple of weeks.

The point is that this is a very bad constitution too.
It speaks of “social market economy” (whatever this may mean) but it had no place for stating the common Christian roots or to claim the importance of free market for the surviving of freedom.
As an Italian, I really hope this consitution is saked both from French and fron Dutch. Maybe Europe does need a Constitution, but the one we may need is the one which claims:
1) The indivisible link with US, the importance of the Atlantic partnership and of Western values;
2) The primacy of the Market;
3) Our Christian Roots.
C ya, guys,
aa, from Italy
Agreed, aa. But those things will certainly never come from the present EUrocracy.

The French just saked it, partly because
1/ link with NATO was too strong
2/ it speaks a lot of the Market but poorly of people
3/ it claims the right for people to pratctice their religion in public
Basically, we would have liked a much much simpler & shorter text, just with the democratic rules to play by in Europe – but with no political content (that are the laws taht should be voted by European or National parliaments, but not hard wired in the Constitution)
