“Conservative bloggers are part of the story. They have vilified me, mounted a “wilding” attack against me…we were, it seemed the first victims of a new kind of digital McCarthyism, which uses the same techniques as the old McCarthyism–rumors, slurs, false charges and ugly attacks–but now employs the Internet, talk radio and cable TV echo chamber to ricochet information around the world

Boston Globe’s “Seal” of Approval

Does the Boston Globe really need to make excuses why its reader circulation has hit the skids? Earlier today we posted about the “Globe’s daily circulation declined by 17,000 copies, or 3.7%, and Sunday decreased by 15,000 copies, or 2.1%“. With all the excuses that executives came up with for the declining numbers and of course leaving out blogs; they seem to have left out one other real big reason.

Michelle Malkin posts on the not so” seal of approval of The Boston Globe. FAKE! FAKE! FAKE! The SEAL HUNT STORY from last week is yet another in a long line of media fabrications.

And they have the audacity to call blogs out on the carpet that because we do not have editors. That we do not fact check and we cannot be trusted? WHAT’S THEIR CONTINUAL EXCUSE?

LA Times Circulation Down and Out

In a follow up to the earlier post “Newspaper Circulation Dropping; Who Could Have Seen That Coming?”, comes even more bad news from the newspaper word, LA Times circulation down 5.5%.

Though executives declined to break out individual paper’s Fas-Fax numbers, which are due out in May, Smith acknowledged the Times will drop more than 5.5%

Even the Wall Street Journal was not spared from terrible numbers. What is most telling was that their internet operations were more profitable than the “flagship Journal”.

Earnings plunged by 54 percent at the newspaper’s parent Dow Jones & Co., with its fledgling online operations earning more money for the first time than the flagship Journal and the weekly Barron’s.

One of the few bright spots in the newspaper print medium was USA Today.

Mary Mapes Book takes no Prisoners

The Anchoress has some out takes from the new Mapes book coming out. You remember Mary Mapes, the producer that spent 5 years chasing down fake memos. It looks like she was hung out to dry by CBS, and now is exacting her revenge.

Tough Judges make Safe Communities

One of the reasons we live where we do is because law enforcement and the judiciary do not mess around. A crime in Atlanta that may get probation will get you 5 years in Fayette County.

We do have crimes, and horrible ones. Two teenage girls killed one of the girls grandparents. Sordid story, but they were tracked down in less than a day all the way across the state.

They were sentenced yesterday, and here is the exchange between Fayette Superior Court Judge Paschal A. English Jr*** and one of the girls.

Harvey, the Colliers’ 16-year-old granddaughter, was sentenced to two consecutive life prison terms and Fayette Superior Court Judge Paschal A. English Jr. forced her to go into great detail about the killings.

When English asked her why she killed her grandparents, she said simply: “For Sandy.”

The judge pressed her further. Then she said she and Sandy killed her grandparents “so we could be together.” When the judge asked where the star-crossed couple might go, she said, “Anywhere.”

Police have confirmed that Harvey and Ketchum were involved in a romantic relationship.

When English asked Harvey what she would have chosen to be her punishment, Harvey replied, “I think I should be dead.”

“Well, we both agree on that,” English replied.

What a great line. It is true and pulls no punches. He then sentenced her to two consecutive life terms because she was a minor. We are tough but fair down here. And it is amazing how little crime does occur compared to the neighboring counties

*** You may recognize the name of the judge, Paschal A. English Jr, from Survivor. He was the star of one of the Survivor Shows.
