A Tale of Two Murders, Two Investigations and Two Prosecutions. Never could two cases with the same suspect(s) be handled so differently.
As the murder case continues against Joran Van der Sloot in the death of 21 year old Stephany Flores in Peru, we cannot help but think back and make comparisons to what was going on in Aruba five years earlier. What a drastic change of events and how the Aruban and Peruvian law enforcement. prosecutors and judges handled the two cases. After all, both Natalee Holloway and Stephany Flores were murdered on the same day, five years apart and the common denominator was Joran Van der Sloot.
Flashback, July 5, 2005, Beth Holloway gives the now famous press conference (audio can be heard HERE) following the release of Deepak and Satish Kalpoe the day before.
Beth Twitty just gave an emotional statement that to paraphrase said: She is very disappointed with the Aruban Justice System. She thinks that the Kalpoe brothers are criminals and that it is an injustice to have the boys who are free to walk amongst the citizens of Aruba. Also, Beth made the request that the Kalpoe brothers not be allowed to leave the country. Here is the transcript. It is now that I ask the world to help me. Two suspects were released yesterday who were involved in a violent crime against my daughter. These criminals are not only allowed to walk freely among the tourists and citizens of Aruba, but there are no limits where they may choose to travel. I am asking all mothers and fathers in all nations to hear my plea.
Beth Holloway went on to say the following:
I implore you … Do not allow these two suspects, the Kalpoe brothers, to enter your country until this case is solved. Do not allow these criminals to walk among your citizens. Help me by not allowing these two to get away with this crime. “I am asking this in the name of my beautiful, intelligent, outstanding daughter who I haven’t seen in 36 days and for whom I will continue to search until I find her”.
We flash-forward five years to witness how the Peruvian people reacted when Joran Van der Sloot was arrested and brought before the Peruvian judge to face the music.
Needless to say, this is a far cry from the treatment that Joran Van der Sloot, Deepak and Satish Kalpoe received in Aruba.
Now we flash back to Aruba, 7/5/05 after Beth Holloway had her press conference. The reaction of the Aruba people was not, oh my God, that poor mother, her poor child, we feel for her. Just the contrary. At the time, according to news sources from Aruba and Canal 90, there is supposed to be a demonstration held at the in front of the courthouse at 5pm. Not a demonstration against the LE and prosecutors letting the Kalpoe’s out of jail … but against Beth Holloway and the family. Believe it or not, thin skinned Arubans were upset that Beth called the Kalpoe’s criminals and Arubans are upset at “the image of a foreigner calling them criminals twice implied that the courts were inept.
In addition, according to sources on the ground in Aruba:
The mood here is NOT good after the Beth Holloway-Twitty called the Kalpoe brothers criminals. After listening to Top 95 radio today and some of the listener’s comments today I was unnerved by a small segment of the Aruban people and their reactions to Beth’s press conference. It appears that some Arubans are upset at “the image of a foreigner calling them criminals twice is not a good thing, implying that the courts are inept.”
Well if the shoe fits, huh? Knowing what we know now, what do those Aruban’s think of their court system today? Prosecutors that refused to try any of the last three boys last seen with Natalee Holloway, even after Joran Van der Sloot confessed his involvement numerous times.
However, the result of the Beth Holloway news conference was an event that will forever mare the investigation and cause great mistrust between Aruba and the Holloway family and those supporting the family forever. Because Beth called the Kalpoe’s criminals, she was forced to apologize or face libel charges in Aruba.
That is correct folks for all that may have forgotten. Beth Twitty had lost her daughter in Aruba, Natalee had been missing for 35 days, the family had been jerked around the entire time, the three suspects including the Kalpoe’s had implicated two black security guards and falsely accused them of involvement … yet it was Beth Twitty who was made to apologize to the suspects who were last seen with her daughter driving away from Carlos N’ Charlies’.
The mother of a missing Alabama teenager could face a libel lawsuit for speaking publicly about two suspects’ release from an Aruban jail.
In some of the most astounding comments made yet in an investigation that has had more mishaps and its share of amazing comments comes this.
But the Kalpoe brothers’ attorney, Elgin Zeppenfeldt, threatened legal action for the mother’s remarks, CNN said. He accused her of making “prejudicial, inflammatory, libelous and totally outrageous” statements. “She called our client, Mr. Satish Kalpoe, a ‘criminal … involved in a violent crime against my daughter’ and who is ‘allowed to walk freely among the tourists and citizens,’” Zeppenfeldt said in a statement.
It seems an even more ridiculous comment has come to the forefront as they expect Beth Holloway-Twitty to do what?
An apology was not ruled out, the report said.
AN APOLOGY!!! Excuse me? You know what is slander and libel and deserves an apology? Who called who a criminal to the police? When the Kalpoe brothers along with Joran with forethought who concocted a story (lie) and that implicated two innocent security guards to take the rap for something they obviously did. Oh, I guess the attorney of the Kalpoe’s forgot this little tid bit of what they did to have two innocent people arrested because of their lies.
Talk about adding insult to injury and just a sign of things to come in the rabbit hole know as Aruba in Wonderland. Today we are witness to how the Peru people reacted to Joran Van der Sloot and his arrest in the murder of 21 year old Stephany Flores. What a difference 5 years and a change of venue makes. Peru is obviously no Aruba.
