How desperate have resorts become in Aruba to draw business to create ridiculous marketing campaigns?

How ironic is it that a resort on a Caribbean Island where Aruba is more known for the taking away of a child’s life with regards to Natalee Holloway, is actually promoting “conception” marketing.

Aruba NH Vanderbilt

The Westin Resort in Aruba is offering $300 for “babymoons”. Along comes the latest gimmick to get you to go to Aruba. With tourism down any gimmick will due. However, let’s think about what the Westin is offering. It’s a “conception credit” on your next stay, not a rebate from your current one. So one would tend to think that a couple would not be vacation while pregnant or in the distant future following the birth. Then the expenses of a new born and the constant care that is required, so when would one go back to the Westin and is there a time limit that they are not stating?

It would appear that some one else agrees with us that this is nothing more than a shameless “get knocked up” marketing ploy. Some how the vacation to the Aruba Westin is to be planned just perfectly in advance that the couple hits the conceiving window just perfectly. HUH?

Inspired by coral spawning season on the island, The Westin Resort on Aruba is offering twosomes a $300 “conception credit” toward their next stay if they conceive a child while staying Sept.1-Dec. 19.

How do you prove that the Westin was the site of the happy occurrence? With a note from a doctor saying the stay occurred around the likely conception date.

However, one needs to ask the Westin Resort and other Aruba Hotels, what tourism gimmick would they offer if a person is given a date rape drug, sexually assaulted, presumed murdered and goes missing forever while vacationing on Aruba?

Is there a special missing in paradise hotel stay credit given for having a child disappear on Aruba and for having the prime suspects in the case never prosecuted? So what would the Westin offer in a marketing campaign if a family lost their child like in the case of Natalee Holloway? Just curious.

Actually the offer was inspired by the fact that tourism is down in Aruba.

Preliminary data on real tourism receipts 3 show a 10.4 percent contraction in May
2009, compared to an 8.3 percent increase in the corresponding period of 2008. In May 2009, the average occupancy rate of both hotels and timeshares registered a 3.3 percentage points fall to 68.2 percent, compared to a year earlier. The number of cruise passengers dropped by 13.3 percent compared to May 2008, while the number of ship calls grew by 66.7 percent, indicating that relatively smaller ships called at Aruba’s port.

Since the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in May 2005, a the Lifetime movie network has created the made for TV movie of the Natalee Holloway story … Missing in Aruba.
