NFL Asks Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold to Take down Politcal Ad

Define irony …A US Senator that co-authors campaign finance laws restricting campaign advertising breaking copyright law. Just another case of, it’s for thee, not for me.

Incumbent Democrat Wisconsin US Senator told by NFL to remove content owned by the National Football League out of his most recent political ad. The irony is that one would think that the co-author of McCain Feingold, legislation restricting campaign advertising would know better. At least one would think; however, obviously not the case as Feingold violated NFL copyrights.

As the Gateway Pundit says, “It was a pathetic ad anyway. Now it’s an embarrassment.”

Is it any wonder why Russ Feingold is down in the polls badly to Republican challenger Rob Johnson by 12%.  

I guess Russ Feingold is not a watcher of the NFL and understand that they take the protection rights of their property to an extreme. Feingold uses NFL footage in his recent ad, it will soon be edited out.

The National Football League has asked the Russ Feingold campaign to take down a newly released ad that uses footage from NFL games.

The Feingold campaign reacted quickly.  “We are making an edit to the ad to accommodate the NFL’s concerns,” campaign spokesman John Kraus told the Journal Sentinel.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league did not license the footage used in the ad. He said the league had contacted the Feingold campaign about removing it.

The ad features various scenes of football players celebrating in the end zone. One clip shows the infamous 2005  “mooning” incident featuring Randy Moss, then with the Minnesota Vikings, in a game at Lambeau Field.

A closer look at the ad suggests that the only NFL player featured in the ad is Moss and the Vikings.

Here’s what Feingold says in the ad: “In pro football, they call this excessive celebration. And they punish it with fines and 15-yard penalties. It’s exactly the kind of behavior that corporate special interests and Ron Johnson are engaging in.

“They’re dancing in the end zone because they think they’re going to take down the U.S. senator who has been named the No. 1 enemy of Washington lobbyists. Fortunately, the game isn’t over yet.”

Feingold ends the ad by saying Wisconsin deserves an independent voice.
