For how many years was Craigslist “erotic services” allowed to put women in harms way?

Exactly how many rapists and murderers have their been lurking on CraigList’s “erotic services”? Just when one thinks that a google search for a Craigslist rapist or killer is going to be for an individual one is doing a post for, another Craiglist rapist appears.

David Lee Gage would pose as a police officer- brandishing a fake badge or gun and telling the women to either have sex with him or be arrested

On May 21, 2009 David Lee Gage, a 51 year old Kansas man was sentenced to 29 years in prison for raping women who advertised in the “erotic services” section of Craigslist.

David Lee Gage, 51, of Wichita, was convicted last month of three counts of rape, two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy and one count each of aggravated robbery and aggravated assault.

Prosecutors say he met the women at motels, flashed a federal marshal’s badge and threatened to arrest them for prostitution if they didn’t have sex with him.

Assistant Sedgwick County Prosecutor Justin Edwards said he believes there were other victims over the years, though the three women who testified against Gage were raped in a 10-week span last year.

Flash forward … David Lee Gage of Wichita was found dead in his cell at the Sedgwick County Jail of an apparent suicide. Gage was awaiting transfer to prison after being convicted in May of seven felony counts, including three counts of rape. It would appear that prison life did not appeal to David Lee Gage. Seems that he could do the crime, but not the time.
