The Biden Choice by Obama for VP and the Snubbing of Hillary Clinton … No Bounce with Biden VP Pick

On the eve of the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Barack Obama and his campaign are faced with an intriguing dilemma. Obama has made his choice of Joe Biden as his VP and in the process upset and alienated many Hillary Clinton supporters. It appears that the choice of Biden was not a detriment to Obama; however, it looks like it was no help either. A recent Rasmussen poll stated 39% say Biden was the right choice, while women were less enthusiastic. However, with all the build up to the ObamaVP choice, the Biden announcement fell flat.
On the day that Barack Obama announced Joe Biden as his running mate, 39% of voters said he made the right choice. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 25% disagreed and another 35% are not sure.
Women are notably less enthusiastic than men—33% of women say Biden was the right choice while 27% disagreed. Men, by a 46% to 24% margin, said that Obama made the right choice.
Gallup also has a new poll out that states Biden does not harm; however, does not help much either. This is far from the lack of momentum that Obama wanted with his VP pick heading into the Democratic National Convention. The VP pick should have created a bounce … it did not. The momentum from a Democrat’s VP pick should not be glee from the Right.
With Hillary Clinton garnering nearly half of the delegates during the Democratic primaries one would have thought that Clinton would have at least been on Obama’s short list. It seems that she was not. Many Democrats dreamed of a dream ticket of Obama-Clinton 2008. Now they are stuck with Obama-Biden 2008. A recent Wall street Journal poll, 52 percent of them say they will vote for Obama, but 21 percent are backing McCain, with an additional 27 percent who are undecided or want to vote for someone else.
Obviously the McCain camp was quick to jump on the snubbing of Hillary Clinton as Obama’s VP and Team McCain created a new political ad … “Passed Over”.
The Hillary Clinton Factor and her spurned supporters will become a factor in this election and haunt Obama
“She won millions of votes. But isn’t on his ticket. Why? For speaking the truth,” says the announcer in ‘Passed Over.’
The spot uses primary season footage of the New York senator criticizing Obama’s policy proposals (“You never hear the specifics”), his links to convicted Chicago developer Tony Rezko (“We still don’t have a lot of answers about Senator Obama”), and his campaign trail attacks (“Senator Obama’s campaign has become increasingly negative”).
“The truth hurt,” says the announcer. “And Obama didn’t like it.”
