MISLEADER IN CHIEF: THANKS TO OBAMACARE, UPS AND UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA ENDING SPOUSAL INSURANCE COVERAGE …

Remember when President Barack Obama promised Americans that under Obamacare, you can keep your insurance coverage if you like it? Well guess what, HE LIED! As reported at the NY Times, United Parcel Service has told its employees that it will stop providing health care coverage to their spouses who can obtain coverage through their own employer. Thus, spouses who have a lesser coverage in their employment, but are provided heath care will no longer be able to be covered under the better UPS health care insurance plan. This is happening in many other companies and as it turns out Universities as well. UPS and UVA are dropping spousal coverage and citing increased health care costs. Wait, wasn’t Obamacare supposed to cut health care costs as well? I guess it all depends on what “nobody” is?

THE OBAMA LIES: “If you like your healthcare plan, you can keep your healthcare plan, PERIOD! No one will take it away, no matter what.”

United Parcel Service has told its white-collar employees that it will stop providing health care coverage to their spouses who can obtain coverage through their own employers, joining an increasing number of companies that are restricting or eliminating spousal health benefits.

U.P.S., the world’s largest package delivery company, said its decision was prompted in part by “costs associated with” the federal health care law that is commonly called Obamacare. Several health care experts, however, said they believed the company was motivated by a desire to hold down health care costs, rather than because of cost increases under the law.

In a memo addressed to employees, U.P.S. said, “Limiting plan eligibility is one way to manage ongoing health care costs, now and into the future, so that we can continue to provide affordable coverage for our employees.”

The memo also estimated that about 33,000 spouses were covered under its insurance plan for white-collar employees and that “about 15,000 of these would have health care coverage available through their own employers.”

The University of Virginia is going the same.

The University of Virginia will no longer provide insurance coverage to the working spouses of its employees, a move university officials hope will save “millions of dollars.”

Starting Jan. 1, employee spouses who have health insurance coverage under their employers cannot get coverage under UVa’s plan. If the spouse is covered under a plan defined by the Affordable Care Act as “minimum value” and “affordable,” he or she will no longer be eligible.

Cutting off working spouses with access to health insurance is part of the university’s plan to save money in the long-term, said UVa spokesman McGregor McCance.
