Biden Choice as VP … CNN Poll Says Dead Heat … No Biden BOUNCE

The Non-Biden Bounce …

Was Joe Biden the right choice for Obama’s running mate for VP? The polls tend to say no. A CNN poll that was conducted after Biden was announced to the Democratic ticket shows a dead heat and Obama has lost a 7 point lead since July 2008.

Why Biden’s plagiarism shouldn’t be forgotten

But Biden’s exit from the 1988 race is worth recalling in detail, because his transgressions far exceeded Obama’s own relatively innocent lifting of rhetorical set pieces from his friend Deval Patrick, which occasioned a brief flap last February. Biden’s misdeeds encompassed numerous self-aggrandizing thefts, misstatements, and exaggerations that seemed to point to a serious character defect.

It’s a dead heat in the race for the White House. The first national poll conducted entirely after Barack Obama publicly named Joe Biden as his running mate suggests that battle for the presidency between the Illinois senator and Republican rival John McCain is all tied up.

In a new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll out Sunday night, 47 percent of those questioned are backing Obama with an equal amount supporting the Arizona senator.

“This looks like a step backward for Obama, who had a 51 to 44 percent advantage last month,” says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

So what happened to the VP BOUNCE? One would have thought that there might have been a slight up tick; however, that was not the case. Today’s Gallup tracking poll shows McCain and Obama tied at 45%. There is a three-fold Martian_LTproblem with the Biden choice and one that will haunt Obama.

One, Biden is not Hillary Clinton. There was so much fan fare built up to Obama’s pick of a VP that any choice other than Hillary Clinton would fall flat. It did in a resounding way. As the Looney Tunes martian used to say … where’s the KABOOM … where’s the earth shattering KABOOM. In Obama’s handling of the VP choice … it was a THUD.

Two, the Biden choice of a 35 year Washington, DC Insider was such a sell out to the very core of what Obama has been stating to the American people that it left many scratching their heads. The choice hardly represents change, it represented the same old status quo and a self-admission of Obama’s lack of experience.

Three, a Presidential candidates choice of VP marks to the American people that candidates first real political decision. The questions that come to mind is how was that decision made and how will it reflect future decisions? In that respect, Obama gets a D-. Obama and his campaign handled the Hillary Clinton as VP question terribly to the point where there is obviously a feud brewing behind the scenes. Obama has alienated the Hillary Clinton supporters and even angered them to the point where they may not vote for Obama this Fall. Barack Obama handled the Hillary VP situation as bad as it could be … what does this tell us of his future decision making prospects?
