John Evander Couey Sentenced to Death for Murder of Jessica Lunsford … Justice for Jessica

Make no mistake, it will take years and far too many legal appeals; however, John Evander Couey will die.He will die and he should die for the crimes he committed. Circuit Judge Ric Howard sentenced John Couey to death as the judge described the heinous acts that Couey committed against 9 year old Jessica Lunsford. John Couey has become the face of child sex predators and never has there been a more deserving individual for the death penalty than this waste of human life.

For observers, it was an agonizing, tear-inducing ordeal to hear how a small child could be so mercilessly brutalized and killed.

Howard, in heart-wrenching and sickening detail, spelled out how John Evander Couey removed Jessica from her Homosassa home; how Couey described in “crude and vulgar” terms to detectives his rape of the girl; how he bound her hands with wire and convinced her to step into a plastic garbage bag that was tightly cinched while she was still alive and clutching her favorite stuffed animal, a purple dolphin; and how it took Jessica, whose tiny fingers had poked two holes in the bags in an effort to find air, anywhere from one to eight minutes to suffocate in the shallow grave Couey had dug. What makes people these days question the actions and even hate defense attorney days? Maybe when they act like total pond scum and actually try and defend Couey’s actions by comparing it to that of Dr. Jack Kevorkian. Believe it or not.

JUSTICE FOR JESSICA

In the end there was Justice for Jessica as her father Mark Lunsford made the following comments:

Mark Lunsford, Jessica’s father, cried off and on when taking questions from reporters after the hearing.

“I’m grateful that the outcome was what it was,” Lunsford said, wearing a tie with Jessica’s photo on it. “No matter what, it’s not bringing my daughter back.”

Another comment by Mark Lunsford is one seconded and suppoerted by many of us as well.

Outside court, Mr. Lunsford had a message for Mr. Couey: “Skip all these appeals. Take your punishment. Stand up and be a man.”
