Ingmar Guandique, Man Convicted of Murderering Washington Intern Chandra Levy Sentenced to 60 Years in Prison

Justice served … decades removed.

Ingmar Guandique, the man who was convicted of killing Washington intern Chandra Levy nearly a decade ago was sentenced  to 60 years in proson. Guandique, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, had previously been  convicted of first degree murder in Levy’s 2001 disappearance and death.  It is hard to believe that  Chandra Levy that it has been 10 years since the disappearance and death of Washington intern Chandra Levy dominated the news.

Chandra Levy was romantically linked to former US Rep. Gary Condit and the rumors and speculation was endless. However, following the discovery of Levy’s remains in  Rock Creek Park, police began to look at Guandique who was already serving a prison sentence for attacking female joggers in the same park in the same time the intern went missing. However, Ingmar Guandique still proclaims his innocence.

Levy’s mother, Susan Levy, asked Guandique directly if he had been responsible for her daughter’s death. He shook his head.

“Mr. Guandique, you are lower than a cockroach,” Susan Levy told Guandique, before closing her statement with: “F… you.”

Guandique, wearing an orange prison jumpsuit, told the judge in Spanish that he was sorry for what happened. But, he added, “I had nothing to do with it. I am innocent.
