File this one under … UNBELIEVABLE and where is the common sense in our schools today!
Alexa Gonzalez, a 12 year old NYC middle school student was arrested and put into hand cuffs at the Junior High School 190 in Forest Hills, NY and perp walked to the precinct across the street, where she was detained for several hours. What was the 12 year old’s crime … hazing, attempted assault, possession of a lethal weapon? No, she was caught doodling on her desk with a marker the following: “I love my friends Abby and Faith,” “Lex was here. 2/1/10″ and a smiley face.
THAT GOT HER ARRESTED!!!
What is wrong with schools these days? Arrested for this!!! One might think it was more criminal how the school handled this situation as compared to doodling on a desk.
“I love my friends Abby and Faith,” the girl wrote, adding the phrases “Lex was here. 2/1/10″ and a smiley face.
But instead of simply cleaning off the doodles after class, Alexa landed in some adult-sized trouble for using her lime-green magic marker.
She was led out of school in cuffs and walked to the precinct across the street, where she was detained for several hours, she and her mother said.
“I started crying, like, a lot,” said Alexa. “I made two little doodles. … It could be easily erased. To put handcuffs on me is unnecessary.” Alexa, who had a stellar attendance record, hasn’t been back to school since, adding, “I just thought I’d get a detention. I thought maybe I would have to clean [the desk].”
City officials and the City Education Department spokesman David Cantor acknowledged that Alexa’s arrest was a mistake and ” … shouldn’t have happened.” Really, what was your first clue? What would possess an individual to be so ignorant as to arrest a 12 year old girl for writing on her desk? What justification could there possibly be? How are these people even allowed to be around children, let alone in their charge.
Interestingly enough, all the gutless wonders in the education system ate now looking to CYA and not take the fall for this egregious miscarriage of justice.
Education officials say it was a “mistake,” but the principal of a school where a 12-year-old girl was arrested and cuffed for doodling on her desk won’t back down, the student’s mom said Friday.
Alexa Gonzalez no longer faces a suspension for scribbling with a lime green marker, but principal Marilyn Grant told her mother, Moraima Camacho, that agency policy dictated that she calls the cops.
No Principal Marilyn Grant, some times common sense is supposed to be used and seeing that you have zero, you should hardly have a position of being in charge of any child.
