USA/Gallup Poll Questions Obama’s Capability to Handle Economy, Health Care and Federal Budget

The One’s poll numbers have come crashing back to earth.  It took Americans six months to understand that the Obamamessiah is human after all and figure out that candidate Obama is a different person than President Obama. The people now do not trust him on the very issues why they elected him. Six months into his presidency, Americans are already weary and wary of The One. Stick a fork in him, he’s done.

• By 49%-47%, those surveyed disapprove of how he is handling the economy
• By 50%-44%, they disapprove of how he is handling health care policy

First it was the Rasmussen Report, then the Washington Post/ABC poll, now the USA/Gallup poll finds that more an more Americans have great concerns with The One’s handling of the economy, health care and the federal deficit. More and more Americans have less faith in Obama’s handling of the economy. Is it any wonder with unemployment at 9.5% when the Obama Administration stated it would not go above 8% due to the passage of the stimulus plan.

For all of the free passes Obama has been provided and MSM support touting Barack Obama as the savior of the economy and the most liked President ever, after six months his poll numbers hardly reflect it. As Macsmind simply puts it, “America no longer trust Barack Obama and it is the fastest loss of credibility ever”.

At six months in office, Obama’s 55% approval rating puts him 10th among the 12 post-World War II presidents at this point in their tenures. When he took office, he ranked seventh.

Obama’s personal approval ratings remain high as compared to his policies. However, who really cares whether one likes a President when they are unemployed and they lost their home to foreclosure? Does it really matter whether a President smiles or presents a speech in a grand manner when the content of the words is higher taxes, higher deficits and eventually higher inflation?

However, there is a widening disconnect between Obama’s personal standing and support for the policies he advocates:

•By 49%-47%, those surveyed disapprove of how he is handling the economy, a turnaround from his 55%-42% approval in May. The steepest drop came from conservative and moderate Democrats.

•By 50%-44%, they disapprove of how he is handling health care policy.

•A 59% majority say his proposals call for too much government spending and 52% say they call for too much expansion of government power.

•Expectations of the economy’s turnaround are souring a bit. In February, the average prediction for a recovery was 4.1 years; now it’s 5.5 years.

•The administration’s stimulus package isn’t seen as a benefit by most whether viewed in the short term or the long term, in how it will impact the country or individuals. Only a third think it will help their own family’s finances in the long run.

UPDATE I: Independents are more likely to disapprove than to approve of Obama’s work on healthcare.
