ABC News is reporting that 3 Afghanistan National Army soldiers are missing from their Cape Cod base in Massachusetts. The three soldiers arrived in the United States on September 11 for a training mission, Exercise Regional Cooperation. According to reports, they have gone missing after a trip to a shopping mall in Hyannis, MA. This is the second time in a week that Afghan security trainees in the United States have disappeared. The three men currently missing in Massachusetts are Afghanistan National Army Soldiers Maj. Jan Mohammad Arash, Cpt. Mohammad Nasir Askarzada, and Cpt. Noorullah Aminyar.
Police and military officials were searching Sunday for three soldiers from the Afghanistan National Army who went missing during a training exercise at a Cape Cod military base.
The Afghan soldiers had been participating in a U.S. Central Command Regional Cooperation training exercise at Joint Base Cape Cod, U.S. military officials said. They arrived at Camp Edwards on Sept. 11 and were last seen at the Cape Cod Mall in Hyannis.
The soldiers were reporting missing by base security personnel on Saturday night. They were identified as Major Jan Mohammad Arash, Captain Mohammad Nasir Askarzada and Captain Noorullah Aminyar.
Base and exercise officials were working with local and state authorities to locate them. There is no indication the soldiers pose any threat to the public, military officials said.
The Massachusetts National Guard said that the three soldiers do not appear to pose any threat to the public. Really? What are they going to say? We have let three Afghan high ranking soldiers out of our sight and are wondering around America? The three men were senior military officers from Afghanistan and were cleared by the US State Department to participate in the exercise. Oh that just makes me oh so confident. How is it that we cannot keep tabs on anyone who comes to this country? Do you know how far it is from Quantico, VA to Buffalo, NY?
This is not the first reported case of Afghan nationals who have gone missing while undergoing a training program in the US. Two Afghan policemen who were in taking part in an intensive DEA training program in Quantico, Va., went missing while on a sightseeing trip last Thursday. They were found in Buffalo, NY, on Friday.
