Amanda Reagan Smith, Mother of Devon Epps’s Arrested for the Murder of her Son

Amanda Reagan Smith, the mother of murdered 7 year old Devon Epps’s has been arrested by police in Greenville County, SC and charged with Devon’s murder. Well I can’t say we are too surprised to hear this news, only glad that it has finally occurred. Since first reporting on the death of Devon Epps and the rather bizarre tale told by Amanda Smith, it was rather obvious that her story did not pass the smell test. Some how a knife wielding carjacker uses a pillow to kill, hey right.

Smith told investigators that a carjacker, armed with a knife, attacked her and Devon near White Horse Road back on August 12th.  The young mother said she was forced to watch as the attacker smothered Devon with a pillow.

Nearly three months after Devon Epps was murdered and Amanda Reagan Smith told police that her son was murdered by a carjacker, she was arrested and charged with murder. What another senseless and tragic act of a life taken far too young by the acts of a selfish individual. We are glad to see justice served … JUSTICE FOR DEVON.

Amanda Raegan Smith was charged with murder today in the Aug. 12 death of Devon Chad Epps.

The arrest culminated a nearly three-month investigation that started when Smith, 27, reported a knife-wielding car jacker forced himself into her car near an Interstate 85 frontage road, Greenville County Sheriff Steve Loftis said.

Forensic evidence revealed facts inconsistent with the defendant’s version of events, he warrant alleges.

Asked why it took several weeks to make an arrest, Loftis said, We wanted to make sure we covered every aspect and answered every question we had.

Smith, who authorities said lives at 12 Theodore Drive in Greenville, was arrested and jailed without bond at the Greenville County Detention Center, Loftis said.

“Investigators have concluded that Amanda Smith is responsible for the death of her son,” Loftis said during a news conference in Greenville. “We are confident that we have the suspect in jail now.”

It was not immediately clear if Smith had an attorney. A woman who answered the phone at the jail did not know if she had an attorney.

Loftis said during the investigation that Smith always answered questions from police and continued providing tips, though he would not elaborate. Loftis also would not say if she changed her story.

“We had our doubts and suspicious, but we have to follow the tips,” Loftis said.
