Bring in the Feds …

Officers from the US Secret Service, Syracuse police and the US Attorney’s General office have combined forces to search the home of Syracuse University assistant coach Bernie Fine in DeWitt, NY in connection with the accusations of sexual misconduct allegations. Fine’s home was reportedly searched by the Feds for some 7 hours yesterday; however, no official comment was made as regards to the reason for the search, the investigation or any discoveries. The feds have obviously been called in as the allegations of sexual molestation have to have crossed state lines and federal charges could be made in the future.

New York State Police spokesman Jack Keller said troopers were called to assist the U.S. attorney’s office at the search. According to The Post-Standard newspaper, officers from the U.S. Secret Service and Syracuse police were part of the search team.

Assistant U.S. Attorney William Pericak said he “can’t confirm or deny” an investigation.

“We don’t comment on whether or not search warrants are being executed — we only comment at the time of public events,” Pericak said. “I’m not saying there was or wasn’t one here. But when you get a search warrant that’s sealed, it remains sealed until a court unseals it.”

He said the goal is to avoid “a trial in the press.”

Bobby Davis and his stepbrother Mike Lang, two former ball boys for the Syracuse basketball team, have alleged that they were molested more than 25 years ago by Fine. Presently, Fine is on administrative leave and has denied the charges,  stating the claims of sexual molestation are “patently false.”
